Pros: Cool art aesthetic Customizable aircraft and music which seems to change depending on your choices Tight game-play, cool physics and effects Good game for small doses Cons: Most items can be unlocked after a few hours of play Gameplay becomes formulaic & repetitive with same scenario repeated over and over Restrictive camera view Conclusion: Overall it's decent for what it is. The music and graphics in particular are good and it's a good game for quick distraction and some experimentation. However, in the long run I can't see it holding my interest because each game plays out and escalates in much the same way. Also I'm not a huge fan of the camera and the ability of enemies to fire at me when I cannot see them. A radar would be a benefit. It's not clear either how far player shots go either and how effectively you can hit things off screen. So, I would recommend getting it but would wait for a sale which at this point is fairly common.

Fun to play whenever you want to take a quick break. Shut down your mind for a bit and make stuff go boom! While there's little content in Luftrausers .. essentially one level and a handful of enemy types .. the core gameplay feels great! Non-stop acrobatics to weave your little plane through endless streams of bullets and enemies. The healing mechanic adds an additional layer of tension: stop firing and you'll auto-heal, at the risk of getting overwhelmed with enemies fast. Keep firing, and risk taking one hit too many. The content that is there is highly polished. Screenshots won't do it justice, but the superminimal art style compliments the hectic action very well. I like all the subtle special effects: the reflections in the water; the waves created by your plane as it approaches the water line; the clouds reacting when you shoot them; ... The music is excellent, and dynamically adjusts itself to the action. The game isn't perfect though. If you're trying to "complete" the game by finishing all the missions/achievements, some of them heavily rely on luck / the game's random number generator. Just browse through the game's files and you'll figure it out. Strongly recommended to try at least once, but only when you've seen enough of the vanilla game; it's stupid fun :)

Nothing wrong with the gameplay, very fun to play. But the menus are fucking terrible. They really need to fix this bullshit. It also has locked content, for no reason, this bullshit needs to stop, when are we going to put a few shotgun shells in the head of this tradition?

Lots of fun however the lack of variety kills the longterm prospects. Decent for £1.39. Best played in small bouts. Great soundtrack and art design though.

So 1984, love its clunkiness. For someone who played on mainframes, and had pc/XT/AT boxes this is a wonderful reminder of the sidescrollers. Not quite the same but still very fun. Not Flightmare, but really quite nice, See you Leathernecks.
