Description
Lost Ruins is a 2D side-scrolling survival action game, where you play as a young girl that has awoken in a strange and foreign place without her memories. Explore a dark and dangerous world, battle hideous monsters, and topple incredible bosses.

A young girl wakes up in a dimly lit dungeon without any of her memories. Surrounded by horrible, bloodthirsty monsters, she is rescued by a mysterious magician, Beatrice. With Beatrice’s help, the girl goes on a perilous journey to find answers and unlock the secrets of the Lost Ruins.

Engage in Combat
Combat in Lost Ruins is in real time, and can be both fast and methodical. Slash away at enemies, burn them to a crisp, or even deflect their projectiles back at them. Arm yourself with a variety of swords, axes and other assorted medieval weaponry, and hack monsters to pieces.

Master Spells
For those with an affinity for magic, Lost Ruins allows you to cast a variety of spells through wands, tonics, and scrolls. Burn monsters, freeze bosses, and heal yourself when in danger. Choose what works for your playstyle and make a magic casting character that’s totally your own.

Choose Accessories
The world of Lost Ruins is a dangerous one and being armed to the teeth with awesome weaponry is sometimes not enough. That’s where accessories come in. Accessories are unique pieces of equipment with all manner of effects. One accessory might protect you against fire, while another might heal you when you’re poisoned. The right combination of accessories can create different strategic options for your adventure.

Use the Environment
As you explore the depths of Lost Ruin’s dimly lit dungeons, you will find that while everything around you might bring about your death, you can also use the environment around you to your advantage. Elements within the world will react with other elements realistically. Flammable liquids will be set ablaze when in contact with lit lanterns. Ice magic will freeze bodies of water, making them dangerously cold. The more you understand the environment and how to use it to your advantage, the more dangerous you will become.

Main Character

A young school girl who wakes up in a dangerous underground maze with no memory of her past. Desperate to find answers to who she is and how she ended up in this place, she begins exploring the ruins.

Beatrice

A mysterious woman with incredible magical ability, Beatrice acts as the main character's guide through the lost ruins. She seems to be hiding something, however.

Goblin Merchant

This helpful little guy works for Beatrice, and appears throughout the game to assist the main character.

Sora & Mingie

These two girls aren't just zombies, they're also big fans of pop music idols, evidenced by the glow sticks they carry wherever they go.

Stiff as Hell Controls, Nothing to See

NOT RECOMMENDED. It is one of those games where you fight against the controls to keep your dude moving and you are bored and wondering when it will end. Plot is so clichee you are going to know exactly what is going to happen once the characters are introduced. None of the characters are developed at all. There is no unique or exciting content to look forward to. It is the same carbon-copy stuff that has been done better decades ago. The character animations are the only relatively good part of the game. The plot is dumped at the beginning and the end and your gameplay is essentially wasted effort as you can get the essential parts by watching the game endings on a video site. The controls suck in two (2) irritating ways: 1) Your character freezes in place if you attack and will stay rooted until the weapon attack has been finished. Stiff as concrete. This makes fighting more than one enemy at the time almost impossible. You cannot do any cool dodging as it will with you eating a couple of hits in rapid succession and die instantly. 2) Because the controls are so stiff, you have to keep focusing on babysitting the character. As soon as you momentarily loosen focus, thinking you can routinize this, you are DEAD in a nanosecond. The game does not drop MP recovery power ups, so most of the game you cannot cast spells. There is only spot in the starting area that spawns MP orbs, so you have to go there and to refill your magic points that are barely enough to cast two spells. MP recovery item drops are rare. In late game you get MP regen equipment, though at that point it is no longer useful. Half the play time is spent on trying to keep your MP and HP bars from emptying and dying and losing progress because having no reliable saving in a game where you can die in half a second is garbage. You will lose so much progress and whatelse because you are more concerned about being set back and having to replay parts over and over again instead of advancing in the game.

Nice, short game with atmosphere

The aesthetics and style of the game were very nice. The design reminds me of games like Momodora and overall works pretty well. I quite enjoyed the game's creepy atmosphere and got very into it. The story itself is not too unusual and most players will probably see where it's going right from the start, but that isn't necessarily a bad thing. The game does have some fun little gags sprinkled around. The gameplay is ok, fun and sufficient at times and slightly frustrating other times. There's plenty of variety in the items and different types of builds. Swapping items might be necessary and useful in many cases, but this leads to some frequent hopping in the menus. Also it is very clear that some builds are just straight up immensely powerful (clearing bosses in little more than seconds) and some are very weak or risky at best. Save points tend to be frequent, but very occasionally inconsistent, which may lead to annoying backtracking. I found the game fairly difficult mainly due to precision required for the controls and some enemies being very punishing, but more liberal use of consumable items helps this a ton if you're quick enough to open the menus. The game had some major technical issues right from the start. On my system, either going to fullscreen or turning on vsync (not exactly which one) would frequently cause the game screen to freeze irrecoverably, the game still running behind the frozen screen. This happened several times and caused me to lose some progress, and honestly I would have dropped the game if playing in a smaller resolution non-maximized window had not fixed the issue. Luckily this style of game doesn't really suffer too bad from not being in fullscreen or higher resolution, but this should still definitely be fixed.

Underrated masterpiece

This gameis is a descent little metroidvania that got not that much recognition when it came out, but it's a game worth playing. Everything just fits. The combat is satisfying, the story has some nice plot twist that I personally didn't see coming and the artstyle is phenomenal! The combination of the light effects with the pixel art creates a visual spectacle that you just can't take your eyes from. It is short, but you should get it when you have the chance. It is worth every penny. I would really like to see a second game and hope that this can become a series.
