Description
Lost Ruins is a 2D side-scrolling survival action game, where you play as a young girl that has awoken in a strange and foreign place without her memories. Explore a dark and dangerous world, battle hideous monsters, and topple incredible bosses.

A young girl wakes up in a dimly lit dungeon without any of her memories. Surrounded by horrible, bloodthirsty monsters, she is rescued by a mysterious magician, Beatrice. With Beatrice’s help, the girl goes on a perilous journey to find answers and unlock the secrets of the Lost Ruins.

Engage in Combat
Combat in Lost Ruins is in real time, and can be both fast and methodical. Slash away at enemies, burn them to a crisp, or even deflect their projectiles back at them. Arm yourself with a variety of swords, axes and other assorted medieval weaponry, and hack monsters to pieces.

Master Spells
For those with an affinity for magic, Lost Ruins allows you to cast a variety of spells through wands, tonics, and scrolls. Burn monsters, freeze bosses, and heal yourself when in danger. Choose what works for your playstyle and make a magic casting character that’s totally your own.

Choose Accessories
The world of Lost Ruins is a dangerous one and being armed to the teeth with awesome weaponry is sometimes not enough. That’s where accessories come in. Accessories are unique pieces of equipment with all manner of effects. One accessory might protect you against fire, while another might heal you when you’re poisoned. The right combination of accessories can create different strategic options for your adventure.

Use the Environment
As you explore the depths of Lost Ruin’s dimly lit dungeons, you will find that while everything around you might bring about your death, you can also use the environment around you to your advantage. Elements within the world will react with other elements realistically. Flammable liquids will be set ablaze when in contact with lit lanterns. Ice magic will freeze bodies of water, making them dangerously cold. The more you understand the environment and how to use it to your advantage, the more dangerous you will become.

Main Character

A young school girl who wakes up in a dangerous underground maze with no memory of her past. Desperate to find answers to who she is and how she ended up in this place, she begins exploring the ruins.

Beatrice

A mysterious woman with incredible magical ability, Beatrice acts as the main character's guide through the lost ruins. She seems to be hiding something, however.

Goblin Merchant

This helpful little guy works for Beatrice, and appears throughout the game to assist the main character.

Sora & Mingie

These two girls aren't just zombies, they're also big fans of pop music idols, evidenced by the glow sticks they carry wherever they go.

Pretty good, but NOT a Metroidvania

It's a competent action platformer with souls-y elements. You can play different "builds" using combinations of weapons, spells and items, but you never ever get new skills and progress is only blocked by missing keys or a boss. There are some interesting interactions, for example hitting a body of water with a poisionous weapon posions the whole pool, damaging everyone in it, and the usual tropes of igniting oil (A mop is actually a very useful tool...). Got the true ending on veteran in about 9h, and there is one of the game's problems; You don't regen health, and you don't heal up on savepoints. Meaning you either use food etc, or the combination of a specific item and water. Lots of time was spent standing in puddles. Another annoyance are the checkpoints before bosses, they only save once. Meaning every time you die to the boss you get reset to that state of hp, mp and items, resulting in a heal- and dress-up session. Anyway: Got it for free, had fun. (Two tips: The description of the winged boots might be a bit misleading: Yes, it allows you to attack without losing height, especially useful with slower weapons. But more importantly: It allows you to dodgeroll midair. And: Archers seem be a total pain in the ass...until you equip a shield, then they become a complete joke. Not only do you take no damage from blocked hits, but it REFLECTS the arrow back .)

Not a bad game, not good either

I Consider myself somewhat of a Metroidvania connisseur, played hollow knights, Bio Manace, even the OG Metroids and Castlevanias, including the ones from GBA and Symfony of the Night, and i understand every game that is to be classified as a "MetroidVania" gives its spin on the genra in some way, such as hollow knights, allowing the player to attack while moving, up and down, and he does that without constricting the player, while this game, attacks are so slow, limiting the player's combat capacity so much, it is actually better to avoid all enemies, or use a knife and shield, because every other weapon is unreliable. The main feature of a metroidvania, the core feature if you will, should be movement, and this game clearly has a major lack on it, how so ? in any other game player will be allowed to perform attacks mid air while retaining full or some mobility, or simply keep a momentum during the air attack animation while in the air performing a cancel when it hits the floor as a freebie so if you dont die attacking someone from above, something this game do not have, air attacks somehow stops you mid air, and you can not move until the animation is finished or unless you cancel that with a dodge. Now i understand this is this game's quirk, so to speak, but was it really a good idea to limit the player's fighting capacity so much so it is a better idea to not fight at all rather than clear a room so you can manouver more easily ? Another would be items, this is clearly an isekai, but why are there modern made items like, plastic bottles and oilments in the game ? not really game breaking, just questioning, but related to items, why is armor and equipments in this game so boring and unsuitable ? why cant you equip a body armor, a trinket and a head piece from the get go ? and unlock more trinket slots as you go along ? There is also the isue with the bugs and glitches and performace issues in some rooms, i dont know why, some rooms through the game lags my shit.

Short but semi-sweet

First the good, the pixel art and animation is outstanding. The lighting and colors, everything is top notch. The killing enemies has a satisfying feeling and there is a fair bit of difficulty to it but it is a fair challenge. Unfortunately this game does not equal the sum of its parts. Although the art direction is excellent character design is a cookie cutter anime girl in a school girl outfit with busty villains which has been done to death so much it is boring to no end. The music is completely forgettable and the game does not encourage you to use its many weapons and of course the game is way too short for what they are charging. I am ok with a short game but the price has got to match. Its full price as of this writing is about 20 USD it is worth playing at about 7 USD so wait for a sale and you will feel better about your purchase.

Stiff as Hell Controls, Nothing to See

NOT RECOMMENDED. It is one of those games where you fight against the controls to keep your dude moving and you are bored and wondering when it will end. Plot is so clichee you are going to know exactly what is going to happen once the characters are introduced. None of the characters are developed at all. There is no unique or exciting content to look forward to. It is the same carbon-copy stuff that has been done better decades ago. The character animations are the only relatively good part of the game. The plot is dumped at the beginning and the end and your gameplay is essentially wasted effort as you can get the essential parts by watching the game endings on a video site. The controls suck in two (2) irritating ways: 1) Your character freezes in place if you attack and will stay rooted until the weapon attack has been finished. Stiff as concrete. This makes fighting more than one enemy at the time almost impossible. You cannot do any cool dodging as it will with you eating a couple of hits in rapid succession and die instantly. 2) Because the controls are so stiff, you have to keep focusing on babysitting the character. As soon as you momentarily loosen focus, thinking you can routinize this, you are DEAD in a nanosecond. The game does not drop MP recovery power ups, so most of the game you cannot cast spells. There is only spot in the starting area that spawns MP orbs, so you have to go there and to refill your magic points that are barely enough to cast two spells. MP recovery item drops are rare. In late game you get MP regen equipment, though at that point it is no longer useful. Half the play time is spent on trying to keep your MP and HP bars from emptying and dying and losing progress because having no reliable saving in a game where you can die in half a second is garbage. You will lose so much progress and whatelse because you are more concerned about being set back and having to replay parts over and over again instead of advancing in the game.
