Easy but Engaging!

Lost Eden is a first person point & click adventure game - but NOT a Myst clone! Buyer beware: If you like adventure games for the challenging puzzles, stay away. The first page of this game's manual states that the intention here was to make an interactive movie, and while it still has more gameplay than the average 'cinematic' computer game released nowadays, it is just about experiencing the story. You'll beat this game in a flash. It took me around 5 hours to beat. I enjoyed the game a lot for its incredible setting, its engaging story and, most of all, it's unique soundtrack. The graphics look great even today and really create a world that feels lived in and important. I am giving this game 4/5 stars because of the lack of interesting and challenging gameplay. If not for that, I would have considered it an absolute 5-star game and one of my favorites. As it stands, it is just a very memorable adventure game with a soundtrack that I will keep replaying on my phone for years to come.

A fossil that withstood the test of time

I had never played a classic point-and-click before so I wasn't sure what to expect, especially considering the game's age, but I'm happy to say that I greatly enjoyed my playthough. The pixelated artwork, antiquated 3D models, impressive soundtrack and good voiceacting all combine into a charming little game. The story is exciting and comes to a satisfying conclusion in the end. My only gripe is that a decent chunk of it has you doing the same set of tasks in a number of different locations, which felt unnecessary, but that doesn't stop this game from being an enjoyable experience overall.

An imaginative masterpiece

Yes, I played this as a small child in love with dinosaurs. Yes, I didn't really understand what a 'good' game was versus a 'bad' game at the time. And yes, this game has a lot of flaws when it comes to its actual gameplay. But goshdarn if this game isn't a legitimate masterpiece when it comes to setting a tone, creating a world and establishing a thematic whole. The gameworld is so wholly and wildly unique. Its ability to wave away elements that would traditionally require careful explanation (why are these 'human beings' made out of seashells?) while going in-depth on odd specifics (the ethics of human sacrifice?) is admirable. Not to mention the graphics, writing and music are pretty amazing, especially for its time. The soundtrack specifically really holds up well. I highly recommend checking this out (especially at this pricelevel) if you're at all interested in unique, off-the-wall storytelling from an era of game development when genre and form-factor were suggestions rather than necessities.

Immersive fantasy adventure

This is an immersive one, with the game story told from the perspective of an old dinossaur. He's retelling the exploits of the protagonist as you progress. Even when you die you get some commentary from this guy! Similarly to a lot of adventures from its time, the dawn of the multimedia kits (CD-ROM, soundcards), this one has a lot pre-rendered cutscenes and is fully voiced. The cutscenes are skippable, so it didn't bother me. The puzzles are relatively easy, but the interface seems a little janky if you're used to LucasArts classic adventures. There are no verbs to use, which also makes the interface minimalist but functional. The cursor is always animated and may throw you off while looking for items or directions to follow, as you need to wait for the cursor to switch action icons. There are some problems with some puzzles that may seem to be bugged at first. After looking for a documented bug, I found out that it was intended that way. Trying to solve it sidetracked me for 1h. So if something is supposed to work but doesn't, look for a walkthrough to make sure you're on the right track. One puzzle required me to give an item to someone but it needs to be done while the character is engaged in that subject. If you try to give the item outside that conversaton (eg. right after entering the place), the item will not be accepted. This one cost me maybe 1h too. Overall, I spent 6h playing this game. It's supposed to be an epic quest but the difficulty of the puzzles didn't translate that. Despite the flaws, I liked this one and would recommend for anyone looking for an immersive interactive narrative.

Beautiful Game

This game is truly a wonderful and cinematic experience. The graphics and music were way ahead of their time, and the immersive story was something to enjoy. It is more of a puzzle game like Myst, and can be a little frustrating at times, although that was before the age of strategy guides online. The beginning actually scared me as a kid, and replaying it brought me back to those days. A great game.
