Loria

It certainly captures the spirit of the Warcraft II with a bit of it's sequel, but comes across sound like a very faint nod to Warhammer presenting a story dialogue with of the most cartoonish humour (the good variety) - The prologue to the Order campaign starts off like something out of one the Ultima scripts, then the protagonist cuts off the narrator in the a cheeky way indicating that this game is going to have you chuckling. Loria's controls are very similar to Blizzard's modern RTS titles offering a rather slick user experience along with rather clever AI with some pretty impressive pathfinding (for the most part). Occassionally the odd unit can get stuck on terrain, but the handling of combat is pretty slick with the attack move. The soundtrack is very reminscent of Warcraft II with it's own unique flare. Overall this game is pretty stable even on a MacBook Pro Mid 2015. I'm a little disappoint there is currently no multiplayer, but upon hearing the possibility of it's implimentation down the road has my attention piqued - So with that note, watch the patch notes like a hawk! Would I recommend Loria? For those looking to get into a fantasy RTS experience that harkens from the genre's golden age, you will not be disappointed with this one as it has plenty to offer!

This game claims to be an homage, and it does so, however everything feels just off. First impressions felt more like mockery than homage, and while the game does control well enough alone, it also adopted many pathfinding issues from the format it emulates - and that's what I think is the problem here. This game ultimately "Emulates", and doesn't try to do anythign outside of the material it was, frankly, based on. I play this and the only thing I think is: "Why am I not just playing my original copy of WC2 or 3? Other issues I have is the sound design feels dull, like it lacks both personality and sharpness. The voice work, while done well, just doesn't feel like it is trying to be its own thing - let alone respectful to the material it's based on. And the visual direction frequently led me to miss several things (levers, chests, treasures, etc.) due to how flat everything looks. Ultimately, this game is only ok in a vacuum, but with the alternatives out there, it just falls short, significantly.

Loria suffers from all the bad things of an older RTS, and does not bring much of the good for a newer RTS. * Bad pathfinding * Unit maching (spam spam spam, low survivability) * Lots of abilities you will never bother to use Just to name a few things, personally i would advise any one to pick up the warcraft 2 realse here on gog instead of loria, for a more fufilling RTS exsperience.

This game is clearly inspired by Warcraft, which is not a bad thing, because I loved Warcraft alot! I do like the fact that this developer even after release still keeps good care of the game on all the platforms. So far the game is extremely fun! I would recommend this for all the gamers that love games like Warcraft.

It's very hard to give an unbiased review on Loria, given its shameless similarity to the Warcraft series. The resemblance is so striking it really itches you to just re-install War2. But technically you just have to admit Loria is far superior in... Basically everything. It delivers a lot of fun and keeps the essence intact, if not more polished and perfected. And once you scratch past the surface you see enough differences to go well beyond the "clone" definition. It's not original, but it's too damn good to ignore.
