Retro boringness made modern.

Where to start... the story. The gods call you to save the world (litterally). Done. The graphics: Well, it's not horrible, it has that retro taste, but other than that it is absolutely not interesting. It is not captivating in anyway. It's colorfull, cartoonish, bland. Graphics and animations in combat are just irritating for how ugly they are. The combat: take turns, trade blows. Most of the time is HP economy, with some "injury" here and there that add some malus. You can exchange party position to avoid death. The strategy here is most to decide on what monster concentrate hits, to reduce the number of attacks as quickly as possible. It is easy to try and use a spell, ending up moving a character, due to poor UI. User interface: Really, is a marvel of crappiness. It's not intuitive, It's difficult to find what you want or what you need t do. Characters: They are as shallow as they could be. Aside the main character, that get some dialog in the game, the party is absolutely anonymous. I've played loads of old RPGs at the time, and non of those was so dull, boring, slow and uninteresting. They have taken something from different old RPGs and worsened as much as they could.

Just bland...

In theory, I should love this game. I loved every one of the old games it takes inspiration from. In practice, it is just utterly bland. The story throws name after name around, Lord Suchandsuch, Sea of Thisandthat, without any background or emotional thread. Apparently, you're the Chosen One TM to end a conflict that's not really explained and doesn't mean anything to you. The side quests are borderline insulting - "Harvest my grain while I stand next to you." There is zero party interaction and no background to any of your characters. The interface makes you feel like 1992 in a bad way. For example, you can't just click on a herb to walk over and harvest it. You have to walk up to it. And then click on it. What I really don't get, is how they managed to make turn-based combat so utterly boring. This is the fantastic combat system of Darkest Dungeon, minus meaningful skills or traits or strengths and weaknesses or anything. Just clobbering the enemies to death and throwing in a heal or two. While this game clearly is a labor of love (hence the two star rating), there's no reason to play this game when we all have a huge pile of shame full of excellent games we haven't found the time for.

Starts off promising.....

.... but becomes an exercise in tedium very quickly. The big problem is "limited XP". In all areas of the game there are enemy groups who you cannot beat until you level up to more their level. Not uncommon in this kind of game, and having to "farm XP" to get up to level is also common. But this game makes it utterly tedious to do so. You have to keep wandering around the same areas in circles over and over and over and over waiting for "random encounters" in order to collect needed XP. Those "random encounters" are also limited in number. You will find yourself always with "just not enough XP/level" in your party - and always hunting for more XP. That really is what this game just becomes, hunting and farming XP. You might enjoy the game for a few days, but after that you will get bored rigid! PS/ Why do my reviews keep disappearing? I'd already done a review of this about two months ago, which was pretty much as this one. Nothing breaks "the guidelines". Yet it's the 8th review of mine I have noticed disappear. Most of my reviews are usually negative 1 and 2 stars, as I believe firmly in warning people not to waste money on bad games. Some shill(s) out there does not seem to like this and seems to be on a campaign of reporting my reviews. It's bad enough with the negreps I get, NVM being reported!

Severely limited game economy

The game puts a limit to your exploration due to the fact that you need "food" in order to walk around the map. The food decreases when you do any kind of task. When the food reaches zero, you die. Because the food decreases at a rapid rate and the game economy is so limited and poor, you have to go back and forth between a few berry patches to progress in the game. You basically have to walk like 50 miles back to a berry patch to get food ind

Strange simple RPG...

This game is a bit strange, first you have 5 statistic but practically when leveling up you have three to choose- you always increase speed and Energy/Strength/Constitution. In this game Bard is the most powerful caster, his primally role is buff party and crowd control. Paladin is the best supporter with aura of protection and thief is most bloody dealer, who steals life from our enemies. Divine summoner is more like mage, that provide elemental attack for our party and additional source of money and items. This game gave me on Veteran level difficulty about 120h pure play, and some time when I combine time blessing to clean all road and get additional bonus for clearing from mobs area before removing first prince. Sadly this game have some flaws: It's repeatable to pain (fights, enemies, their strategy etc.) - we lack any random element. We lack models for new enemies, equipment and graphic for NPC. There are many useless skills practically on every class.. Some classes are strong on early beginning, but to be reduced to be useless on the end game (i.e. Mage). Overall this game is "good enough", by not excellent, the best selling point of this title is native support for Linux and have low requiems.
