Lords of the Realm is a true classic strategy game that kept me hooked for ours. Thankfully, it offered the possibility to play with some friends via "hot seat" ... something gamers today do no longer know. And it still is a good and challenging game, depending on the difficulty setting you choose. The pixel graphics are still nice to look at and the sound effects might be a bit scarce (although I have an polished CD version even with music and voice - too bad they didn't use that one here), but the point of the game, become king of England and defeat the other players, is still a lot of fun and one of my favorite games of all times. I love this one, and even if the second part was not included here (which I never played), it's still worth the ridiculously low price. Every penny of it.

Best Classic EVER

I just have to say i love GOG for bringing me this game with no hassle like you might deal with on other sites, it worked right away and I can share it with my friends!!! This game is epic and a must play for anyone who loves strategy games, it is 80% turned based but the wars are RTS, which is a top-down view, it's nothing fancy but it awesome and addicting!! Want to know more?? PLAY the game, it's on sale and worth every penny!!! I hope one day thy will bring this game back, oh btw LOTR3 isn't any good at all, they got away from what made them popular, that's one of the biggest challenges when you make an epic game like LOTR2, how do you improve the game without losing all that made it great but also to not repackage and resale the same old thing. None the less BUY this game!!!

My all time favorite game

This is the only game I still play that was released 20 years ago. This is one of the few games I go to the trouble of installing wine on Linux just to make sure I can play it. If that's not an endorsement enough, I don't know what is.

Good TBS/RTT

It is a pitty that this project was stoped. Yes, now there is Total War, but as for me this game was much more better and convient. In Total War units are uncontrolled, this is spoiled all gameplay and make game not interesting.

Wide difficulty range

This (LOTR 1) is one of the best managing game I've ever played at, and I'm very fond of having bought it. You can forget micromanagement (but don't forget to check every county from time to time) once you have stewardship, but the point is that the game has one of the widest difficulty settings I've known: it is very easy to win on the easy ecenomy level and easy/medium war levels (easy, but you're not allowed to become stupid), and quite hard in the hardest combination of levels and fog. It's delicious, and dangerous: you can forget you need to sleep.
