From a die hard fan from the 90's

I wrote fanfics at school and did a clay model of Twinsen at primary school back in the 90's, so a remake coming out, I was very happy. Seeing some of the changes to Zoe and the new character Luna made me worried but after completing the game, what do I think? Gameplay wise the game is very easy. AI was always dumb and exploitable but the range of attacks has been lowered so you rarely get hit. The map being one big giant map is really cool and there are some new locations and new objectives, not many, but it's there. The temple of Bu has a section completely removed. Movement is fluid and can easily be exploited for speed runs, I skipped an entire part of the temple of bu by just running and jumping. Melee combat is awful, most attacks don't connect or feel good, the sword feels very janky which is a shame. The Ball is by far the best part of combat but also breaks the game because of the range of attacks being very small but yours isn't. It's still fun to play, imho, it's just very very easy. Sounds are a mixed bag, feels very stock sounds at times, then sometimes sounds good. Music never felt as good as the original. Writing was very mixed. The new stuff can be very interesting, the start of the game was my fav part of the game, however there is a heavy focus on them wanting to do LBA 2 more and the story of LBA 1 suffers for that. The "woke" elements can be good, more female characters isn't a bad thing, it makes the world more real and diverse, but not in a bad way, it isn't just the same three models and VA's anymore. No animals. Loved parts of the ending, fighting with Zoe was awesome but ending it with Luna was lame, wanted more of Twinsen and Zoe being a team than the character who I believe is being setup for being the main character for LBA 3 as she doesn't really serve any purpose in the game other than being a damsel. Overal I'm happy to play something LBA related and overal it's good. Won't replace LBA 1 and that's fine.

Amazing hit of nostalgia

I grew up playing Twinsen, primarily LBA2. I loved them, but could never actually finish them as I struggled with the controls and some of the endgame puzzles. Then, I was super excited to find there was a remake. Did I already finish it on the Switch? Yes. Did I just come here and buy the GOG version to get the OST? YES. I love the cartoony graphics. It's a nice update. The original claylike animations still hold a special nostalgia, yet the (re)creators have managed to capture that sense of nostalgia so damn well, while also making it feel fresh. I died. A lot. But you know what? That's cool. I miss adventures with challenges that aren't at Dark Souls level of intensity. The main cause of death was getting caught in sprays of bullets, Twinsen stuck in a knockback loop as multiple soldiers shot at him (looking at you Principal Island). I love the music. As I said, I came here just to access the OST. I really like the new controls, much more fluid than the behaviour changes. Platforming is so much less frustrating once you realise you can switch to walk mode for more accurate jumping, where you don't overshoot and slip off the back end of platforms (oops!). I did get lost on the puzzles a few times where the hints are super vague or not really there, but as I said, a bit of a challenge was nice. Overall, very enjoyable. Very nostalgic, but also fresh (and for me, actually finishable!). I found the end a bit sudden though. Once I worked out what I was doing with the end boss, suddenly it was over. And I wish I could explore Post-game Citadel Island a bit.

Long time LBA fan

I played the originals when they first came out and many times since. This was a decent remake, I would recommend it, though I question some of their choises e.g. the degraded sword mechanic and not being able to control the snowboard etc. I was sceptical to the change in art style but it grew on me. Some things were improvements like movement fluidity, other were downgrades, encountered a few bugs. It could have had a higher score and they would have polished, improved on some things and added to the experience. Though I'm looking forward to the second remake.

Finally can play LBA1

+ better graphics + no division of gameplay to individual screens + improved controls (not so hard) - save points
