Should be Free by now
Considering what the game has went through, and the fact it was a rushed pile... I think it should be free today.

SPECIAL System doesn't work in an ARPG
Seriously, I wanted to love this game. I really did. I loved Fallout (what's not to love?!). The Perks derived from the SPECIAL system works great with the turn-based tactical combats. Now, the theme. I absolutely loved it. Famous real-life historical personas who would interact and, in some cases, even join you on your quest. A time of religious strife colored by paganistic and exotic magics. Now, what went wrong? Everything. Whatever Perks you got from leveling up your character is made useless if your aim with the mouse and speed of your clicks aren't up to par. Sure, you may have mastered a Perk that allows you to kill an enemy with a single blow but if you are facing multiple enemies who could do the same, you'd better hope and pray that you have a sturdy follower who could help you soak off some damage for a few seconds before ripping him apart and then doing the same to you. As for the theme, I'm not going to spoil it but they missed a chance to tell a great story. They squandered their shot for a sequel by making the game's ending so damn terribly predictable, cliched and myopic in scope. And those aforementioned historical fellows you met? Wow. It's like branding Einstein as a genius who likes to stick out his tongue and that's it. No character depth whatsoever. Those that do join you are controlled by an AI so stupid that they might as well have strapped themselves with C4 and blow up along with the enemies to do, at least, some damage before running to their own deaths. What's worse is that these stupid followers sometimes come tagged with a quest and getting them killed fails those quests immediately. Had this been a turn-based game, the player could have, at least done something during their turn to mitigate their idiocy instead of everything happening simultaneously. I don't mind games being tough but I hate it when the challenge comes with making you shoulder baggage that is artificially created to lengthen the game's play time from reloading.

Strange mixture
I've played it three times with a big pause between each time and still the feeling is the same. Very unbalanced, very frustrating and basically no feeling of joy. Even when I was able to kill a boss or a defeat tough opponent I know that almost at the next corner there is an enemy (no boss) that might kill quite easily if I'm not extra careful or instantly if there are two of them. In later parts of the game it is generally a rule and it remind me more some stealthy games, like MGS. I've tried different character builds (one-hand, two-handed, archer, wielder) and some struggle at the beginning, some struggle at the end and if you choose wrong perk you can make another chapter very difficult.

Famous Failed Game
When Lionheart released, people thought it would be a high-quality game. Actually, it's not.

Good start, bad finish
I finally finnished this game, no, I finally beat this game which is achievement of its own. Everything negative you heard about this game is true. This game is like suggesting you need to power game it if you want to finish it. Contrary to popular belief and what game suggest by dropping or giving by NPCs some items or weapons (DaVinci's Crossbow - ranged, The Everlasting - melee etc.), the most easiest way to finnish this game at least for me was by playing as mage, human fire mage, which is not optimal (considering race) and power gamery, but whatever. In many RPG games playing as mage early on is like you are made of glass, but later on it is almost as cheating because playing as fighter is linear (but fun, active, kick ass and chew bubblegum) and as mage (boring, lame) exponential if it is done right by algorithm and gamer. As test, I tried playing as ranged or melee in Barcelona Sewers fighting first Beggar you meet. I lost, but playing as fire mage, I pwned most of the fights. I mean, playing as fighter it was not fun but struggle (no pun intended) because enemies zerg rush on you for the most part and having AoE magic at your disposal is a must. Problem with mage is slow replenishing of mana, there is no sleep, no Atronach birthsign which could replenish your mana, and enemies drops rarely mana spirit. This game don't forgive mistakes. You need to be careful where to spend points and for some skills is wasteful because of items which give points for some skills. Comparing this game with Fallout 1 or 2 for whatever reason (SPECIAL, Interplay, Black Isle) is heresy. Just because this game use SPECIAL does not mean it is Fallout in fantasy setting. Fallout 1&2 have fine tuned attributes (SPECIAL) and skills interacting with in-game world like no other games before and after, you have feel nothing is wasted and everything have its purpose. Buy this game only when on discount.
