In this original mix of Dungeon Management and Roguelite, you will lead your career as a Dungeon Manager!

Features

  • Join the Dungeons Company and climb the corporate ladder
  • Crush so-called "heroes" and protect the company's treasures
  • Hire monsters, manage your employees and your stock of traps
  • Deal with employee strikes and other fun events

RogueDefender

Each run will be different but players will keep some of their Master's bonuses between runs. Like we've already mentioned, our game is a mix between Roguelite and Dungeon Management. How did we achieve that? By running many tests to find the perfect balance between management and dungeon phases!

Dungeon Phase

First, you will have to plan your defense against a group of adventurers. Check their stats and resistances, then place the best traps and monsters to defeat them! When you think your dungeon is ready, let the crawl begin!

You will then be able to watch those heroes die! It's a reversed dungeon crawler: heroes will move through your dungeon and will trigger the traps you placed. When a group of adventurers encounters a group of monsters you positioned in your dungeon, a turn-based fight will happen!

Games/Series that inspired us:

HeroQuest (Board Game), Naheulbeuk (French audio series), Kaamelott (the best French series), Monty Python (English series).

Video games: Darkest Dungeon, Slay the Spire, Dungeon Keeper, Final Fantasy, Divinity, For the King, Chroma Squad, Battle Brothers, West of Loathing and so many more...

Game developed and published by Goblinz Studio SAS (France).

Fun dungeon manager with DD elements

There's elegance in the simplicity. You start a run of ~40 weeks (each week a new event occurs) while gaining monsters, traps, relics, etc. to improve your dungeon of two rooms containing 3 monstrous defenders, and various other rooms depending on the particular dungeon's setup, with the goal being to protect your boss throughout the campaign and move onto a new campaign where more items will be unlocked. Not particularly difficult, but challenging enough to remain fun for the 50 hours that I played (can be a bit addictive). Clearly inspired by some Darkest Dungeon elements, but not meant as a single campaign like DD, and in my opinion, more fun. I preferred setting up defenses, along the individual campaigns, as I found DD's campaign a bit of a slog after far less time than I spent on this game. The combat was also far more intricate with planning on how/where to place your monsters being of utmost importance (far more strategic thinking than DD). Don't bother with the DLCs until you've played most/all of what is to be played in the base game. They're just additional content with more monsters, etc. and I found the base game had plenty to keep my entertained while the DLCs would likely cause the game to over-stay its welcome, but your mileage may vary.

Good game

Cool concept. You are the boss of a dungeon and gather minions to defend it against the heroes entering it, along with some traps and even fighting yourself when things get ugly enough. It's not as in-depth as something like Darkest Dungeon would be, but it does have a decent element of strategy to it. A run in the game is similar in length to a run of Slay the Spire, to give you an idea. It's quite fun to gather new monsters and form synergies between your teams. There's a lot of variety when it comes to monsters as well so chances are you'll prefer some monsters over others and will actively look for them, so it has that collectible element as well. I bought it at 10€ and I feel I'm getting my money's worth, since the game is very replayable as well.

Half a game, free!

I agree with the sentiment below. Developers put out half a game and then incrementally charge for pieces of the rest of the game. This is a free half of a game, and you’ll pay (with DLC on sale) $14 for the rest of it. Back in the day, that was called a “demo” and they were all free. Nowadays, people pay for the demo, just to decide if they want to pay for the rest. Sorry, can’t comment on the game itself at this time, because I won’t play it until the DLC goes on at least 75% off. Then I’ll play this free demo and decide if I want to spend that much.

I got this one for free

First of all: I really had fun playing this game. What's more: I enjoyed it far more than Darkest Dungeons and Iratus. I got it on a Winter sale giveway for free so I decided to give it a try. I like the monsters, the heroes, the bosses, the slow progress, the need to hunt some artefacts that can help you win more easily. It's not hard even on a Normal difficulty. Graphics are nice, same for voice overs, animations, and the dungeon designs. The only problem I have is that it feels - as many others mentioned already - that you got just a demoversion of the game and to fully enjoy its potential you have to pay for (at this moment) 3 DLCs. And that's not how it should be done, IMHO. That's why only 3 stars. And yeah, it becomes repetitive after a while, but somehow for me, I could see that there is a soul put in the game, and despite the repetitive feeling I was still enjoying playing it. Maybe because you have to use some tactics while playing against the heroes, combine the skills and attacks of different monsters of your group... I would pay for this one, if it comes in one package... but buying 3 DLCs to have a full game looks like somebody wants to get my attention first for free, get me addicted to the game and then force me to pay for it (and I don't like this model of doing business, doesn't feel like a honest way).

the poor relative of Darkest Dungeons

...to make it short, in the beginning it looked quite interesting, but after a short time, the fun was gone: you hire monsters and traps, place them in different room at locations which are given by the game, afterwards, you wait for your enemies to enter the rooms, killing them or (more often) being killed. What was most annyoing for me, after you have finished a chapter and start a new one, your trained monsters are gone and you have to start with a completely new crew (except for you, being the slave master). Therefore, no relationship to your servants will grow, if they are killed, you hire new ones (this was also a fact which irritated me when playing "Iratus LotD". What a poor gameplay, compared to Darkest Dungeons, where you could tear your hear when your highly leveled hero was killed. So, for me it's another "indie game juwel" which is not worth both time and money!
