400 years have passed since the vampire Kain damned the world in the original Blood Omen, choosing to rule the world in damnation rather than die for its salvation. Now Kain, who once controlled the land of Nosgoth with his vampire armies, finds his brethren slain and his dark powers stripped by a mysterious figure. To reclaim his rule and exact his vengeance, Kain must dispatch armies of zealot soldiers and overcome legions of demons in order to uncover the ominous plot that threatens the land he seeks to conquer.
Blood Omen 2, the second instalment in the Legacy of Kain Series, is a 3rd person 3D action/combat game in which you assume the role of the vampire Kain. A compelling story takes you through huge, lushly detailed 3D environments and challenges your skills in combat, puzzle solving, stealth and exploration. With each success, you’ll gain new dark gifts that will grant Kain the ability to access treacherous new areas to explore and the power to face stronger, more aggressive enemies. As you develop a stronger, more skilled vampire, you’ll be rewarded with dozens of dazzling in-game cinematic sequences that unfold the continuing epic of Nosgoth, and Kain’s attempts to ultimately rule over it.
Move through crowds unseen cloaked in stealth, travel stories above the peasant herds on which you feed leaping from rooftop to rooftop, and use mind-control on hapless fools to help you overcome vampire-proof inventions.
Unleash your wrath in a lushly detailed, blood-chilling gothic environment that is not only gorgeous to the eye, but also alive with the soon to be dead.
Beautifully choreographed combat with surgical precision as you engage armies of demons and humans alike.
Amazing game. Just make sure to download this unofficial patch after installing the game. It introduces many options not included in the vanilla version like adding frame limit (30, 60, 120), SMAA, wide screen support etc. The game also doesn't crash anymore by using this patch.

Look under the DOWNLOADS AND RELEVANT LINKS and click on Re-vamped DLL. Hit download and then copy d3d8.dll and paste it to the installation folder.
I actually really like Blood Omen 2 for being a bit more combat oriented than the other Legacy of Kain games and diverging from the main (extremely confusing) plot-line. Would recommend whether you've played the Soul Reaver series or not.
Not sure why this game has gotten such bad reviews and reports of it not working. Almost didn't buy it because of that, but it was on sale for like.79 cents, so i figured i'd go for it.
Runs totally fine so far. Went through the first tutorial part, smooth as butter and no problems at all.
Plays with a keyboard and mouse, (or just keyboard), the key mappings are a little wonky to get used to, but you can change them in game menu.
Not as good as Legacy of Kain, but still a decent game and worthy of at least 4 stars.
The main thing to mention is that the game as-is has an audio bug that can crash your PC, requiring a reboot. Checking the forums led me to a downloadable DLL file that fixed the issue and also corrected a few other smaller issues, such as level title screens flashing by too quickly. So it's unplayable as-is but a simple mod fixes it.
Once that's fixed, the game is quite good. For its era, at least. The puzzles evolve as the game goes on, so they're trivial in the beginning but require a bit of thinking in later levels. Nothing too challenging; just enough that you don't completely steamroll through everything. Exploration is rewarded with EXP points which expand your life gauge, but the maps are never sprawling enough to feel like any exploration is going very far out of your way, and if you didn't feel like exploring, it's easy enough to get EXP through combat. You're not gonna get lost in this game.
The combat is a mixed bag. Limited-durability weapons keep you weighing your options whenever you find a new one, but later enemies are so inclined to block everything you do that sometimes a sword will only last long enough to kill a single enemy. Getting around enemy defenses can be frustratingly time-consuming, although you get an ability later in the game that mitigates this. When there are multiple enemies you really have to plan your approach.
A key element of the game is that your health is always going down, as Kain needs to constantly feed on enemies to keep his health up. This was never an issue during my playthrough as it's easy to keep feeding, but it's cool that the game forces you to not dawdle.
The gameplay is only just challenging enough to not be a cakewalk, but the main reason to play this game is the story. The voice acting is first-rate, and there are enough plot developments to keep your interest piqued.
Overall it's a fun game and if you liked the Soul Reaver games you'll probably like this.
For people having problem's with the game not running, or crashing you need to go to dgvoodoov2, and download version 2.53 go into MS file, then drag it to your blood omen 2 directory. also this is key when you start the game alt+tab set affinity in -task manager -details -bo2 check cpu0 all others unchecked you must do this everytime you start the game.
