Not bad, but sluggish and short

In a nutshell: grab it (only) if you liked the 1st season and if it's on sale. In short, I kinda liked the mood and story (even if many things remain vague) but honestly, I think the makers of "The Last Door" overdid the lores thing. While you could say that the extremely lores graphics (that make C64 games look hires) support the ominous atmosphere, I'd argue that they also made the game cheaper and faster to produce. Besides, the few times I got shortly stuck was because some "object" only one or two (gigantic) pixels in size blended too well into the pixel noise of the background. Besides, it makes it somewhat hard to related your protagonist(s) or even recognize any of the different characters. Actually I kinda lost track who was searching for whom at some point. The 6h playtime are prolonged considerably by the slow walking pace of the protagonist, objects obscured by the lores graphics and the game's tendency to open paths or dropping objects without any relation to your actions in rooms where you wouldn't expect it. Apart from that, most of the riddles are logical and therefore rather easy to solve. Plus the aren't many of them and the locations are rather small. Of course there are still no voice-overs, only some sound effects and music here and there. In the last chapter, I noticed some bugs regarding text being displayed much too small when using a high resolution. Also double-clicking to quickly proceed to the next scene didn't always work. Anyway, I kinda got what I expected and I bought it on sale, so I was somewhat satisfied. So I give it four stars even if three stars would be perfectly reasonable as well.

The best lovecraftian game to date

Allthough I'm not crazy about the last episode, season 1 and 2 as a whole are fantastic. Subtle nods to several weird-tales authours, Lovecraft and Chambers primaliry. The graphics suits the mood and story, the soundtrack is used sparingly and it's just overall brilliant.

A Shiver Running Down My Spine

Well... Although part of me would agree that the ending was a bit clumsy, and that made the whole series uneven, I would still claim that it is solid as hell in what it is trying to accomplish. It's a journey to the deep and dark corners of human mind, irrationally thrilling despite grotesquely primitive graphics. Both the soundtrack and the way the story was put in words created the magnetic feeling of immersing. It was disturbing to play in the dark. It was disturbing to play alone. But it wasn't tasteless, as many horrors seem to be. It was deeply disturbing on the emotional level, not on the level of physical disgust. I truly appreciate the work of authors on piecing the story together, creating characters that we can sympathize with (and worry for, even though we barely know them). It was like reading through an animated book, a child of H.P. Lovecraft and Edgar Allan Poe. It was beautiful. As to gameplay and genre, I have to say I'm biased as it has been my favourite genre since I was a kid. No complaint here. All in all, it's a very stylish game, with a magnetic atmosphere and compelling story telling. It was the first game that I have ever bought (that said by a Russian, we're notorious for piracy) Let's see what The Game Kitchen is preparing for us this September with "Blasphemous"

Even better than the previous one!

This game won't make much sense to you if you didn't already finish the first season, so I'll assume you did. It has all the qualities of the first one, plus the puzzles are more elaborated and the game itself is slightly longer, so I'd say it's even better. While the first season started strong and got a bit bland towards the end, this has been quite the opposite: the beginning is a bit weak but it gets more and more engaging. Of course, this is a bit subjective and depends heavily on the tastes of everyone, but it's a great adventure nonetheless. Again, the story is not very original in the sense that it takes from well known material (I think I've recognized a bit of Eyes Wide Shut, the Wicker Man and, this time yes, The Call of Cthulhu), but it works pretty well (at least for me). If you already like the first season, there is no reason not to play this as well.

Where can I leave my money for Season 3?

And like Season 1, the story don't dissapoint at all, good continuation and better puzzles to resolve. I'm really glad I decided to buy the full game because you can see perfectly how you don't need amazing graphics (must say I personally love this pixelart) to tell amazing stories in this case. And probably the most difficult moments of this one is not click to play the next episode. My congrats to the dev team, well done (again). The worst point of this game: it ends. Or maybe not?
