Last Day of June is an interactive tale about love and loss, from an all-star team of creators - including critically acclaimed director Massimo Guarini (Murasaki Baby, Shadows of the Damned) & award-winning musician and record producer Steven Wilson, and featuring a collaboration with writer/director/animator Jess Cope (animator on “Frankenweenie”, director for Metallica’s “Here Comes Revenge” music video).

A HEART-DRIVEN QUEST: Last Day of June is inspired by Steven Wilson’s haunting song “Drive Home.” Recreated as an interactive adventure, Last Day of June takes players on a profound and poignant journey.

POETRY IN MOTION: A true artistic innovation in visualizing a bittersweet story told through a welcoming, painterly world that showcases the beauty of life and love, but also the contradictions of loss.

EMPATHY THROUGH EXPERIENCE: Determined to save his beloved and fueled by the power of grief, Carl introduces players to June’s last day. But as they interact with the narrative, players will progress from viewer to a character deeply intertwined in the story.

FATE-ALTERING PUZZLES: Relive June’s last day by traveling back in time through her paintings in an attempt to change the results of the fateful and final drive home by solving emotionally challenging puzzles.

INTERACTIVE STORYTELLING: Carl and June’s story progresses at key moments where life-changing decisions need to be made, but players may need to navigate unintentional consequences that create new dilemmas – and potentially new opportunities.

It's pretty and stuff

Last Day of June is a puzzle game in which you try to find a way to save June. Your wife June, not the month. The gimmick of this game is taking control of other characters during one day, changing the behaviour of characters to try and prevent certain events. The art is great, aside from the crazy amount of Depth of Field they used for some reason. Certain scenes just look extremely strange due to this. The few scenes where you drive a car just felt bad. The gameplay is just... walking towards stuff and interacting. There's a few collectibles spread out over the map which you'll get access to as you progress. The game can be frustrating as the nature of it ensures you will see certain cutscenes more than once. You cannot skip them or speed them up in any way. Even if a cutscene is 3-5 seconds this can get extremely frustrating. The slow walking speed of characters does not help either. The frustration I occasionally felt while playing Last Day of June did not erase the charm it has, definitely a game you should play.

Moving ...

It took me around 3 hours to play through and I recommend playing it in one session. It's fascinating how I felt connected to the characters in this short time, even without real voice acting. A little bit anoying is the point of rerunning cut scenes which you can't fast forward (even if the game itself cuts some them later on). Kind of a walking simulator = great story, few things to do. But with a little thinking you can progress faster, with fewer reruns of timeline chapters. I can recommend it for everyone enjoying short games with a realy moving story.

Great Game for one evening

I finished this little gem in about 3 hours and enjoyed every minute! The gameplay contains three elements: Exploring (a little bit), solving puzzles (not difficult, but thinking is necessary) and optional collecting 20 retrospections (pictures which deepen the past of each character). But I won't play the game again because of the gameplay. Truly great are three other aspects: - the Story - the Art Style - the Music These are three reasons why u should play this game! (preferably in one session) During the game u have to replay some parts to change decisions made before or collect all retrospections, but every time the game speeds some parts or cutting out the boring ones (like long walking or watching long video sequences), so it doesnt feel like: Why do I have to play this again? By the way: The development team worked in a small village in Italy, I believe the atmospheric and peacefull setting is inspired by that.

A game with soul

"Last Day of June" is a wonderful athomospheric game about loneliness, hope and desires. In the beginning, the story about a man and his loss didn't touch me, it even seemed to me like a superimposition. Also the language with its incomprehensible babble deterred me. But the player must give the game time to unfold its charm. By a clever game mechanics with changing figures in a time level I found fast pleasure in the manipulation of the story process. Without anticipating the end, I can only advise everyone to persevere. I could hardly resist a tear. A captivating game.

Heartwrecking game :(

What if you would mix the beginning of Up and Groundhog Day with a time paradox twist? That's how you would get Last Day of June, a quiet sad and in ways cruel point and click game where your goal is to save your wife. The game has really nice visuals and the controls are good, I would imagine it's even better using a controller for this game but it works for mouse and keyboards as well. While the game does have some metroidvania themes (you need to re-visit areas to unlock them with other characters and to collect collectibles, etc.) I'd say the game is streamlined enough for this to work in a non-annoying way. I definitely recommend this game if you like heart-touching stories and great visuals!
