The Gateway to Vespuccia, the City of Air and Light, Lamplight City - the thriving port city of New Bretagne is a beacon of progress and industrial advancement in the New World. Yet beneath the promises of a shining 19th-century future, the city rests upon foundations of poverty, class struggle, and crime.
For police detective turned private investigator Miles Fordham, Lamplight City's shadowy corners are just part of the territory. But with his former partner constantly speaking to him from beyond the grave, his grip on sanity is slowly loosening. Can Miles find justice for his clients and track down his partner's killer before his entire world comes apart?
Lamplight City is a detective adventure set in an alternate steampunk-ish "Victorian" past.

...I would advice to deactivate the text, as the game got problems with storing the language selection and it's mixing languages sometimes.
Besides of that it's a brilliant game!
Absolutely fantastic! This game has everything I can ask and imagine for a truly indy game, made by a man who always brings all his passion and craftship and personal vision to the adventure genre, this time in a new and deep neo vectorian setting. Remarkable!
I was immediately captivated by this Victorian Steampunk detective game. The retro low-res graphics brought me back to the golden era of point and click adventures. I had a smile on my face when I started playing it, being totally immersed into the story.
That was... until it started to unfold. Very early on, I was being preached on critical race theory, LGBT+, feminism, Marxism, virtue signaling, and the whole 9-yards of woke propaganda that completely broke game immersion. If this is a Victorian story, none of these things belong there. Your disembodied companion keeps preaching modern Marxist activism the entire game, as a constant immersion breaker.
I had to make a mental block to be able to keep playing because the game was beautiful, and the protagonist was likable. I have enjoyed solving all of the 5 murder mysteries - kudos for how some of the stories had intertwined, which was an extra nice touch. However, some dialog choices WILL block investigations, forcing us to declare them unsolvable. Is that what they call replayability?
In the final chapter, it became obvious where the story was going, which was rather disappointing. The writers have injected the maximum wokeness into the conclusion to make sure we won't miss their political message. To me, that made the ending rather cheesy for the wokeness sake.
All in all, I was only able to keep playing and enjoy the game by making an effort to ignore the modern Marxist preaching embedded into the story and characters. I don't regret playing the game, as long as I was able to stomach the mandatory preaching. Much love was put into this game, and it had all the elements to become a CLASSIC, but instead, they chose to turn it into a political propaganda outlet, and not in a subtle way.
It's a beautifully made game, and I love its Victorian Steampunk atmosphere, but I recommend this game with hesitation. Play it if you are not easily offended by those subjects.
Over twenty years David Gilbert has developed and produced the best retro adventure games out there, winning passionate fans and well deserved fame for the Wadjet Eye Games brand. As Wadjet Eye moves into the mainstream with hits like Unavowed and Nighthawks, "Grundislav Games" has spun off from the mothership as a kind of Fox Searchlight brand for more offbeat titles. Doing the heavy lifting for this first game is longtime Wadjet Eye Games employee and Gilbert protégé Francisco Gonzalez. Gonzalez wear this legacy on his sleeve. "Lamplight" is a clear nod to Shardlight, one of Wadjet Eye Game's in-house titles, and the concept of a paranormal investigator helped by a ghostly sidekick is a welcome callback to Gilbert's more well-regarded Blackwell series. Lamplight City follows the streamlined design standards laid down in the Unavowed manifesto, eliminating "verbs," puzzles and inventory to make room for branching story and a memorably diverse cast. Just as one hears strains of Harry Potter in books by "Robert Galbraith," the old master's fingerprints and DNA are in Lamplight City too. This is very much a Wadjet Eye game, whatever the label. If you've enjoyed their earlier work, you shouldn't skip this one despite the new label. Can't wait to see what Daivd and Francisco make next!
Incredibly annoying to play, railroaded from one plot point to another, this dead idiot constantly chimes in with his unfunny commentary and the creator shoves his politics down your throat.
