Make sure your controller is connected
TLDR: A detective game with a visual novel feel, 3 stars but ONLY if you use a controller. WHY 2 STARS, THEN? This game only mentions its controller support when it detects it; otherwise it only shows keyboard controls everywhere. Since I hadn't connected my controller at launch, my first two runs where with the keyboard, and while I obviously liked the game, my play and enjoyment suffered a lot. I considered giving it 3 stars anyway, but given the dev's hubris in listing the classics' (real) shortcomings in his game blurb, I can't ignore the blunder of not mentioning controller support in-game just because it wasn't connected. THE GOOD Actual detective mistery (not a puzzle collection) where your deductions and behaviour make a difference. You only get one shot at conversations. Make the wrong conclusion, say the wrong word, and you'll find yourself catching up with the action -the story will progress anyway, but with less options and locations for you. Deductions are made by answering brief multiple option questionnaires. Works fine, is lightweight, and since the answers don't change across runs it helps replayability. Autosave only -no going back, unless you start a new run. Enough text and story for a visual novel; it kinda is one. If you like visual novels you'll like this -there are many nuances to notice and variations to explore, with multiple endings. A run takes a few hours. THE BAD: Controls. Running is not the default: you must hold Shift or Right Trigger. Controls can't be configured and (subjectively) aren't intuitive nor comfortable. Keyboard controls just get in the way of immersion. Secondary character portraits all look very similar. A gimmicky "AR mode" -a secondary interaction mode used when your character "inspects" his surroundings. Inconsistent and somewhat gratuitous. I CAN RECOMMEND THIS for people who like story, detective work (not puzzles!) and visual novels, but PLEASE make sure your controller is connected.
