A classic

The Labyrinth of Time is a "Point and Click" Adventure in the vain of Rhem, or MYST. The biggest difference between them is that this has an Inventory, more like the Zork Adventures. It has great music, as well as pre-rendered 3D graphics, though they are not as detailed as MYST. This game takes place across time, in King Minos' Labyrinth (in case you could not guess). You will explore a modern city, a western town, a moon base, and more. I highly recommend it. Just remember to save often, as there are a few things you can do to make the game unbeatable.

Among the best art direction of any game

If you enjoy adventure games – especially of the Myst variety – you probably know what you're getting into with this. You are trapped in a haunting and empty world. There's unusual locales to explore, puzzles to solve, journals to read, and mazes to traverse. What sets this game apart is its tremendous art direction. The Labyrinth of Time is strikingly vivid and borrows from every artistic tradition to make a bold, surreal, and distinctive setting. Its patchwork, time-travel-influenced design is unlike anything ever put into a game. Where else can you break down the wall of a movie theater and wind up in a hedge maze? The soundtrack also deserves special commendation. It follows the same vein of intense surrealism. If you're a fan of adventure games for their environment and ambiance, The Labyrinth of Time should be an automatic purchase. To quote the game's intro, it may be bizarre and frightening, but it's neither dull nor grey.

One big maze!

Oh Wow! Of all the old funky fun adventures, I didn't expect this one to see the light of day again I got this game with my first cd-rom! Kinda nonsensical, but I really enjoyed playing it back in the early 90's It really is a giant labyrinth...the whole game. Its one giant maze. Hard not to get lost after awhile, but the graphics were nice for the time. I enjoyed it until I got tired of back-tracking endlessly, try to work out what I'd missed. Turned out I was close to the end there. Hey, look out for the clowns, folks! (Seriously, those clowns were really creepy)

A thoroughly bizarre adventure

Labyrinth of Time pulls you, the player, from your grey and dreary existence in a direction you didn't know existed into Daedelus's Labyrinth. You are tasked with destroying the space-time spanning collection of mazes and puzzles before it is completed; something you'll take no remorse in doing by the end of your adventure. The Labyrinth of Time can be summed up as a large collection of pre-rendered environments, some obscure and downright confusing puzzles and series of long mazes. You'll spend most of your time exploring, occasionally collecting unusual doo-dads that come in handy at very specific points, walking through the many detailed and elaborate environments. The visual oddity of the experience gives it much of it's character; walking through a hotel door onto a train in the old west or stepping onto a platform into an abyss looking at a crystal fortress is a surreal and disorienting sensation that characterizes the experience. The sinister sounding score that accompanies it feels as out of place in this game as everything else. Unfortunately, the game isn't terribly interactive. You'll collect items that have a purpose but 75% of the game are empty corridors or winding mazes that pad the experience more than they add to it. So LoT can be a mind-bending experience I was not altogether unhappy to leave by the end. Still, this uniquely unusual experience might be worth the price of admission for some.

A charming and unique adventure

The Labyrinth of Time was released the same year as Seventh Guest and Myst, and holds up fairly well. The premise is that the famous Labyrinth of legend actually crosses time as well as space and you can travel to different times just by walking around. Some settings are smaller than others, and the technical limits of the time prevented much character interaction. However, the graphics were astounding for the time, and the game part was good as well. I'm docking one star because I was originally unable to finish the game due to being stuck on an obscure puzzle near the end (for comparison, I did finish Myst and every classic Lucasarts adventure I played). Despite this, I enjoyed most of the game and with online walkthroughs being much easier to find, you should have no trouble playing all the way through.
