King's Quest 4+5+6

The good: Personally, I think these three games represent the best the King's Quest series ever got – technologically advanced enough to be able to support actual storylines, puzzles difficult enough to be challenging but not quite as cryptic as the earliest offerings. They stand the test of time very well. The bad: the CD-ROM version of King's Quest V has some of the worst voices I've ever heard in any game, which cannot be turned off – there aren't subtitles, either. Having played the (non-talkie) floppy version of the game, I really wish that were what GOG was shipping.

Love... True Love...That blessed arrangement... that dream, within a dream... (Your moment of Zen). That's what sends Prince Alexander far from his home, to the land of Green Isles, in search of his love, the Princess Cassima. Following the stars his ship is run aground onto the reefs of the Isles and he is washed ashore. It was 1992 and graphics were just starting to evolve past Mario 2, 16 bit. Roberta Williams was well know for her series of stand alone, playable adventure games, the Kings Quest Series. (She actually pioneered the graphic blue screen technique that you see in Rooster's Teeth's Red vs Blue series as well in her hit Phantasmagoria). Her huge fan base immediately swarmed the game, and a radio release of a song "Girl in the Tower" was available on local radio stations. The woman knew how to launch a game. She weaves the captivating story of Alexander's romantic escapade as he searches the Arabian style Green Isles, solving puzzles and defeating gnomes, minotaurs, and even Death himself as he frees the beautiful princess from the evil vizier's clutches. I heard about the infamous design, but I wanted to give the games a chance. At first, it really was enchanting, nice graphics and ideas and atmospheric exploring. But the walking control is a chore, endlessly klicking on pixels because Rosella won't find her way. And then I gave something to someone and later realized I needed to give it to someone else. And reading about the game/s this really is just one dead end of many. Use an item in a wrong way, do something out of the intended order, you name it. And in part IV, there is even a time limit. Doing everything again? No way. Of course, you can save as you like, but for this game design, one might have to save after every step. And you might say, those are old games, but also in the past they could have designed it better, game designers then were not less smart than they were later.

Okay, it seems to me GoG now has the enhanced edition of KQ6. However, "Girl in the Tower" still does NOT play during the credits. There is nothing but SILENCE. Needless to say, I'm furious!!!! Otherwise this is good. But I'm really mad about Girl in the Tower. WHAT did I EVEN get all the points for!!! If not to be serenaded! OOOOOOH A POIIIISONOUS OVERSIGHT
