The renowned knight and Defender of the Crown, Bill Gilbert, leaves the realm in search of new adventures after saving the world of Endoria from the demon Baal and his hordes. King's Bounty: Crossworlds Game of the Year Edition draws you into the role of Princess Amelie, who was but a child in King's Bounty: The Legend. You'll take part in tactical, turn-based battles, complete quests for experience and gold. Assisting you in your noble endeavor will be your pet Dragon, a royal gift, who will lend his aid to you in battle. Take the reigns of your magical Pegasus and find the Defender of the Crown!
King's Bounty: Crossworlds GOTY includes King's Bounty: Armored Princess and two mini-campaigns: Champion of the Arena, where you'll fight bosses in a gladiatorial tournament and Defender of the Crown which features battles in unique tactical arenas with a random selection of enemies and allies.
King's Bounty: Armored Princess features its own expansion - Orcs on the March, featuring new units, spells, and quests.
An editor for King's Bounty: Armored Princess is also included for you to make your own mods and share them with your friends!
I have played this game for ages (got it on DVD). The Legend and the base Armored Princess was great too, but Crossworld is easily the best version of the King's Bounty series. The possibilites are endless, since there are so many troop, skill and spell combinations. I have finished it many times and I always want to try again with a different line-up of Orcsm, Humans, Lizardmen, Demons, Undead, Dragons, Elves, Dwarves... etc. It a has a fun story too with good jokes and fantasy references. And balance-wise, much easier to play then the later games that were made with a far less experienced development team.
Try this game out if you like:
- games with creative quests that only require one or two actions to resolve them
- turn based combat games (played on a hex map)
- a wide variety of troops with widely varying special abilities
- running around a map picking up collectables
- listening to a good soundtrack
One of the most wonderfull story based games I've played, beautifull atmosphere and sound, a princess that I fell in love with, and a good Heroes like turned based game. 100% worth the buy, even at full price.
King's Bounty Crossworlds feels like what would happen if 200 teenagers worked together for two months with a software like a 3d RPG Maker and tons of assets...
To sum it up you have PLENTY of very generic (but charming) content, an entire book of rather low-grade dialogs, fedex quests everywhere and very grave issues of balance. For instance I was totally mesmerized by the difference between the paladin and the warrior, in the first island, normal level. I tried the paladin once, and, I'm not kidding, the mobs where near-unbeatable, like seriously 5-10 times stronger than with the warrior. Same difficulty level !!! Did anyone test this game before realease ? This is the most crazy exemple I recall, but things like this keeps happening again and again. There is no shortage of flaws during the whole experience (one way or another, a great diversity of flaws) !
When you are not strong enough to beat the mobs (most of the time in the first half of the game) you keep sneaking all the time... Problem is... This is NOT A STEALTH GAME, BY NO MEANS, the game mechanics in this regard are crap : the paths are half-random and never synchronized, you never know what the AI "see" you don't have any action like hidding and so on...
In the end ? I played this game for hours and hours and it was very addictive and somewhat entertaining and it was a waste of time but it's ok because I consider it a guilty pleasure, sort of...
Good game. Map plays like HoM&M3 but instead of building castles, you buy your troops from establishments that you find in your adventures and you follow a story and side quests.
