So much potential. So much waste. This game becomes a slog fast. The story which starts out so strongly isn't enough to keep you interest as you plow through infinitely respawning areas that all feel the same, just with different skins. I want to like this game. I want to enjoy the pretty feel of it. But I can't. I finally just gave up as it just ended up feeling like wading through a swamp of disappointment and eventually just boredom. There never got to be a point where I felt I had accomplished anything, despite the piles of quests. What went wrong? I don't know. But something did, and it means you should probably pass on this one. There are better RPGs.
Played the original years ago, one of those games that I didn't want to see end. The combat was fantastic, from the skills to the actual mechanics of launching your attacks. The world was beautiful and big enough, with each area having a distinct feel/vibe to it. I even got into the lore of the game and found myself making decisions based on what I wanted for the world, not necessarily min/maxing my char. It felt like I was playing in an MMO world built just for me. Loved it.
Unfortunately, this is a game that will always be judged by many for the "off the field issues" related to 38 Studios. And there's a lot that went wrong there, no doubt. But solely judging the game on its own merits, it's a fantastic experience well worth the time of any rpg fanatic.
Its laughable that this has an 18 rating as more like Tom and Jerry level violence. Tactics are non existent, just run at enemy and hit the mouse button. No real RPG elements and storyline really not there.
Cartoon style hack and slash.
Game claims ultrawide support but it just streches the screen and you lose 1/3 of the height in 32:9.
You cannot even set it in 16:9 in the middle with black stripes on the side. The only way to play it correctly is in windowed mode, with a title bar, desktop on the sides, and grieve for anything above 60Hz.
For a 2020 reboot, this is just wrong.
Also, if your memory (the biological one) lacks as much as mine, it's the game where you start as a dead corpse on a cart pulled by gnomes, before being droped in a pile of other corpses.
It hurts when you buy a new promising 2020 game only to figure out in the 1st cutscene you already finished it 10 years ago...
