I just played through the 1fst game for the first time and this is a very faithful sequel which seems to do everything better. I wouldn't put it next to RDR2 or BG3 but somewhere right under it.
This whole game just thrives on immersion. The woods, the people & the social norms transport you right into the medival times. Sometimes some whacky voice acting throws you off but then again it kinda fits into the tounge&cheek humor of the game. I really like it when they reward it when you actually put some thought behind your choices.
All in all i'm happy with my purchase.
Going from KC:D1 to its sequel is comparable to reading a traditional King Arthur tale, then halfway through the author succumbs to outside pressure and distances himself from the core audience while bringing in an army of sensitivity consultants. The modern westernized style is all over this one, so if you want to protect the integrity of the unfinished masterpiece that was the first game, its better just to replay that instead.
Might be a good game but I will never know as it gave me very bad motion sickness even after downloading the no head bob mod from Nexus. Surprised the devs did not consider options for this as the first game in the series had the same issue. Refund requested
Kingdom Come Deliverance 2 is an incredible game, a fantastic sequel and an absolute must play for fans of KCD1 or RPGs.
The story of Henry from KCD1 is scaled up and brought to new regions giving him a clean slate. Whether old or new, characters are well written and deeply engaging, with a wide emotional range. Most have hours upon hours of dialogue over the course of the game. Cutscenes are expertly crafted to bring key story moments to the next level, be they joyus, sad or horrific.
KCD2 has the most beautiful landscapes of any game out there. The environments and lighting are stunning, and yet the game runs surpringly well for how good it looks. The audio design is near flawless. The music is heavy on ambiance as before, but there is a larger variety in themes and mood than before to completement the longer and more tonally varied story.
The game is filled to the brim with details, and does a great job at reacting to player action. NPCs can almost always be checked on after quests for closure and following your own intuition is often rewarded, while following the quest objective blindly is not.
Every system from KCD1 feels more refined or expanded. Skills have been streamlined or altered and level cap was raised to 30. The combat has overall been improved, but still shares some problems with KCD1, namely: the camera/targeting and master strikes ruining combos. New mechanics like blacksmithing have been added.
The expanded crime system is easily the best in any RPG ever made. NPCs can now associate just your presence with thefts, and will accuse you even if they didn't catch you red handed. You can be branded and shunned, as well as executed for you crimes. The new additions not only enhance immersion, they makes the stealth more engaging, while making it more challenging to get rich quick as in KCD1.
I think this game stands proudly alongside Baldur's Gate 3 as a true RPG masterpiece, that everyone should play.
First the good, the open world exporation is amazing and the only reason i kept playing this game initially. However, no matter what choices you make or how well you play you will be outwitted by the enemy over and over and over and over. I kept playing just to see the end, just to get to kill the main protagonists, i finally gave up, after yet another cut scene where I lost, ran, was captured, or betrayed. I gave up, I let them breach the walls and win, they deserve it, they are smarter, stronger, and more ruthless. I hate this game more than anything ive ever played in my life. If you ignore the story and play it as a medieval life sim I give it 5 stars, for anyone that's interested in playing it that way. EXCELLENT medieval life sim. TERRIBLE story.
