Game:

You're Henry, the son of a blacksmith. Thrust into a raging civil war, you watch helplessly as invaders storm your village and slaughter your friends and family. Narrowly escaping the brutal attack, you grab your sword to fight back. Avenge the death of your parents and help repel the invading forces!

Story:

Bohemia – located in the heart of Europe, the region is rich in culture, silver, and sprawling castles. The death of its beloved ruler, Emperor Charles IV, has plunged the kingdom into dark times: war, corruption, and discord are tearing this jewel of the Holy Roman Empire apart. One of Charles' sons, Wenceslas, has inherited the crown. Unlike his father, Wenceslas is a naive, self-indulgent, unambitious monarch. His half-brother and King of Hungary, Sigismund the Red Fox, senses weakness in Wenceslas. Feigning good will, Sigismund travels to Bohemia and kidnaps his half-brother. With no king on the throne, Sigismund is now free to plunder Bohemia and seize its riches.

In the midst of this chaos, you're Henry, the son of a blacksmith. Your peaceful life is shattered when a mercenary raid, ordered by King Sigismund himself, burns your village to the ground. By bittersweet fortune, you are one of the few survivors of this massacre.

Without a home, family, or future you end up in the service of Lord Radzig Kobyla, who is forming a resistance against the invasion. Fate drags you into this bloody conflict and shoves you into a raging civil war, where you help fight for the future of Bohemia.
  • Massive realistic open world: Majestic castles, vast fields, all rendered in stunning high-end graphics.
  • Non-linear story: Solve quests in multiple ways, then face the consequences of your decisions.
  • Challenging combat: Distance, stealth, or melee. Choose your weapons and execute dozens of unique combos in battles that are as thrilling as they are merciless.
  • Character development: Improve your skills, earn new perks, and forge and upgrade your equipment.
  • Dynamic world: Your actions influence the reactions of the people around you. Fight, steal, seduce, threaten, persuade, or bribe. It’s all up to you.
  • Historical accuracy: Meet real historical characters and experience the genuine look and feel of medieval Bohemia.

One of the best RPGs

This game despite the odd bugs you might find here and there is quite possibly one of the best RPGs of all time for me up there with Gothic 1 and 2, a LOT of content to go through in the game especially when counting all of the dlcs in the game, beautiful graphics, non linear, historically accurate and overall realistic - you won't be going up on your own against 5 bandits and killing them off without a scratch even in the late game. Last but not least the game is quite frequently on sale but even when it is not it is just £24,99 for the base game and £34,99 with all of the dlcs. Highly recommended.

A great game, but imperfect

This is a really good game. I had a lot of fun with it and kept playing until I'd seen and done everything (I think). Note that a lot of quests are hidden and many characters have follow-up quests, so keep asking the innkeepers if there are things to do. Unfortunately like many other reviews have noted, there are still a bunch of bugs. I had issues with perpetual loading screens at several points and one or two freezes and CTDs. Some perpetual loading screens can be solved if you use Escape button and skip the cutscene, but at least one of them was totally unsolveable and I had to avoid that character at all costs (fortunately not a main quest character). There are a bunch of balance and pacing issues and an overall lack of polish that I think is fairly typical of a studio's first game. Some skills level up too fast and others level up too slow (lockpicking is a good example), even with a thief playstyle and reading all the lockpicking books and doing all the thieving quests, I still couldn't open all the chests by the end of the game and my skill was only 16. There are a few quests that don't properly reflect some of the decisions you made and things like that but nothing critical. Gear balance is a bit broken. You will end the game with >100k groschen and nothing to spend it on, simply from looting people you kill. What would have been better is if bandit gear topped out at low level plate or even chainmail, forcing you to find treasure/win the tournament/ buy from an armourer to get top level gear. Instead, by midgame you can find the finest smithed cuirasses and pauldrons on random bandits so there's nothing to spend your money on and no point visiting an armorer to go shopping. Still, this is a really enjoyable game, I really liked it and I wish there was more content for it / I hope there's a sequel. I also hope they do another game like this (same systems, levelling up etc) but in a fantasy world - that would be amazing.

Looks good, runs smooth, feels quality.

I've got to say, this is a good looking game. I'm not that far in, but I haven't had any performance issues etiher; I'm on a laptop with Ryzen 5800H paired with Nvidia 3070 90W, and no noticeable frame dips to speak of during the 1.5 hours it's taken me to see the starting town and finish the first mission (I have the in-game FPS counter off because that's the default setting (the brief moment I toggled it on in the starting menu screen, it stayed at 120 frames)). I can tell a lot of care went into making this. As I hinted at above about the graphics, the environment with the trees, grass, and buildings on the hillside look vibrant and pleasing to the eye. How the non-player characters greet you and go about their business really does give the starting town of Skalitz a small town (local village) feel. They come closer to feeling like characters who have their own business than NPCs in other games I've played. The setting has a genuine feel about it (since it is supposed to be closely based on the historical circumstances) and not the generic medieval fantasy feel you get from many other games. I got it for 70% off the other day, and I feel like I'm playing a triple A title from the quality of the game, even though I don't recognize the developer and publisher as huge names in the industry. I'm impressed and looking forward to playing further.

A Decent Mess

I played this on the Epic Store and amassed 51 hours, so I feel lik I can give a fair review. I want to talk about the biggest gripe I had about this game before talking about the positives, since for many people it'll be all they need to hear to make a decision. Many times, the game feels like it's punishing you for playing. There are several times where you'll get fucked over for no apparent reason, die randomly, be suddenly overwhelmed, you'll end up lost, you'll spend hours collecting ingredients to find out the quest is timed, it can just be a colossal pain in the arse. You have to be a patient person to play this game, because I couldn't finish it purely because of how infuriating it is. Combine this with the LITANY of bugs, and there will be plenty of times where you don't feel like you're at fault. Warhouse Studios made a very flawed and often unfun game. But when it *is* fun? Oh it's fun. Talking a calm ride through the surrounding lands, winning a game a dice, slaughtering a group of bandits on your own one by one, interacting with the NPCs, it can feel very enjoyable. But then you're dropped back into the muck and scum of the game, and you just want to throw your computer out of the window. Also if you're gonna play this game, don't be afraid to read a walkthrough. The game won't forgive you, but you can always give yourself a leg up on it's bullshit.

Good game. Too many bugs

The game is hard, discouraging, and challenging at first. Once the combat and mechanics are understood, games becomes plenty fun. Only one problem is the sheer amount of bugs in the game that have not been fixed considering how successful the game turned out. It seems they had more than enough what it took to fix the bugs yet decided not to do so.
