Bohemia – located in the heart of Europe, the region is rich in culture, silver, and sprawling castles. The death of its beloved ruler, Emperor Charles IV, has plunged the kingdom into dark times: war, corruption, and discord are tearing this jewel of the Holy Roman Empire apart. One of Charles' sons, Wenceslas, has inherited the crown. Unlike his father, Wenceslas is a naive, self-indulgent, unambitious monarch. His half-brother and King of Hungary, Sigismund the Red Fox, senses weakness in Wenceslas. Feigning good will, Sigismund travels to Bohemia and kidnaps his half-brother. With no king on the throne, Sigismund is now free to plunder Bohemia and seize its riches.In the midst of this chaos, you're Henry, the son of a blacksmith. Your peaceful life is shattered when a mercenary raid, ordered by King Sigismund himself, burns your village to the ground. By bittersweet fortune, you are one of the few survivors of this massacre.

owned the game on xbox and after finishing KCD2 i had to play this again isnt as smooth as the second game but still worth the buy

Immersive and realistic RPG!
Immersive and historically accurate game, with VERY good dialogue and voice acting! I held off with this for years, cause I heard it had a very unforgiving save system, and that battles were too hard. I'm 50+ and not too good at fast reactions or perfect coordination, so never thought I'd manage this game since it doesn't have any difficulty settings. Bought it on a sale after many years, and turned out it wasn't bad at all! Save system is pretty generous, there will always be a bed nearby to sleep in (save), and I never was even close to running out of the saviour schnapps you drink to save manually. Melee was no worries either - you just need to be patient and careful first hours, until you've gotten the lessons needed to do all kinds of blocks. Just finished the game after 75+ hours, but I did not do all sidequests and tasks. After 1/2 of the game, when you've seen everything and have all the best gear and know how the game works, some of the excitement and challenge were lost for me, so I focused more on the main story. In the end it all was great though. The ending is alright, not totally abrupt as some are saying, and now we have KCD 2 as well to continue it all :)

a Weird Masterpiece
I dislike first person games, so got this on high discount as a fix for lack of RPGness.. Oh boy, am I glad I did! Story, immersion, music, voices.. so many things are way above what you get on average from many AAA games. There is plenty of bugs, and weird mechanics that can get on your nerves, but they are all immediately forgiven the moment the game drags you into being Henry and makes you live his journey. Bad: limited saves, characters get stuck walking, sometimes unclear what to do, quest breaking bugs. Mixed Feelings: Combat - you can be easily outnumbered and killed, no matter how good you get. Good: Lots of interesting interactions, realism (history, no magic). atmosphere, story, immersion, music
