Neat idea, mediocre realization

This game has charming setting, lovely soundtrack and adorable theme, but my experience was spoiled by the drawbacks. First of all, bugs, both gameplay- and story-related. Sometimes Kim just won't shoot at the enemy and run into them instead. Attitude modifier "Son of O'Hara" began to apply before I even knew what the heck it means. Most NPCs are boring and doesn't have much to offer for a conversation. Sometimes I had hard time understanding what people around me expect me to do. It really breaks my immersion and makes narration twitchy. And finally, my favourite quirk of this game. Kim under my control MURDERED a Buddhist boy, grabbed his clothing and put it on. Not only Lama didn't disapprove such demeanor, he actually started to like Kim more for wearing Buddhist outfit! Sheesh!

A very good RPG

So this is the top down RPG that plays a lot different than most games I've ever played I found it very ambitious and very unique and surprisingly a very good game at first it was kind of slow and didn't quite get it but after playing it for a while I really started to enjoy it it's got pretty good graphics for a top-down the music is not bad the controls are done very well the game overall it seems like a solid different type of game and just for the difference of it I would totally recommend it.

Brilliant (but imperialistic) little gem

I found this brilliant, interesting, and a lot of fun. Helped because i enjoyed the book as a kid, but interesting otherwise as well. Balance was not great, it was sometimes hard to figure out what to do, I sometimes ran out of time, and the occasional and often optional fighting was flawed, but i found the exploration and multiple different ways to explore, accomplish goals, balance various health/food/money/time issues surprisingly fun. I found the quotes interesting to get the British perspective on India at the time, but my biggest issue is that they don't have any Indian perspectives; the people are fairly sterotypical and the whole thing is basically seen through British eyes--this is like the book, but really? If they mixed it with authentic Indian viewpoints on the occupation from the time, it would have been 5 stars for me.

Indian background yes - Indian game, no!

While interesting as far as the storytelling goes, and enjoyable for the way the game plays, this is ultimately a missed opportunity. It is a game that uses India as a background. However, what it is certainly not, is an Indian story. Instead, this is a rather typical modern Westerner's imagination of India. It's painfully obvious this was written by a Brit who has never actually been there. It makes you cringe every other sentence. Sure, they did their research: but in a library! To elaborate, if you need to explain India in one word - your word is "helicopter": By the laws of physics it should not be able to fly and yet it does, its entire dynamics are so chaotic that every sensible Maths breaks down, it defies all closed-form predictions, yet keeps going, and ultimately nobody seems to be able to fully explain why. The primary problem of this game is, that it is sterile. Not enough chaos, not enough flora, not enough fauna, not enough people, not enough (crazy) ideas. In short: it just doesn't lift off. It relies on British sources for explanations. Source, that are - unfortunately - not only sickeningly arrogant, but also false on a multitude of details. While it tries to incorporate diversity, it makes a mockery of the same, as the authors apparently take their "diversity" the same way they take their curry: bland. In short, if you are looking for an entertaining game - by all means! Entertaining it is! But if you wish to catch a glimpse at life in (historic) India, you have come to the wrong place. And if you happen to be Indian: do yourself a favor and skip it entirely - unless you are looking for something that makes you want to bang your head against a wall, repeatedly.
