Jotun: Valhalla Edition

This reminds me of the old C64 Games only with realy beautiful Grafik. There is not that much in the Game, only a view Enemies and somthing like Traps. If you are a real old Oldschool Gamer you will soon seen what I mean, Its the old "move to the right Place in the right Time & Hit the Enemey" then Take Cover. It´s kind of Hack & Slay just with minimal Enemies, but it´s beautiful executed with an unique Grafik Style and an unique Sound. I play Computer Games for about 35 Years and I didn´t play a Game like this before. This Game is "something else" with the unique Style there is a kind of joyful atmosphere even if you are dying. It´s not an every Day Game, but something to came down und relax.

+ Nice hand made drawings and animation. + Atmospheric soundtrack and good voice acting. - Very short, I could complete it in 4h. I missed a couple of power ups, but looking for them would have added one other hour at most. - Bad gameplay. The levels have very few obstacles which are more of a nuisiance than a challenge. The bosses are ok, but very short and also quite easy to fight. Due to the consistent lack of challenge, everything feels more like a waste of time than a game. - The art is sometimes a bit inconsistent. Some parts (especially backgrounds) seem rushed or lack detail. In the end, I think the game is not worth the full price. If you can get it really discounted and have nothing better to play, it is still a nice, short travel into Norse mythology.

+ 2 star for art + 1 star for Norse lore - 1 star for abysmal gameplay It is a walking simulator with occasional “fights” and boss battles. The combat is terrible due to its poor control, weird hit boxes, enemies without IA (only following a certain sequence), blinding and irritating bosses mechanics, and dying by simply getting stuck. Do yourself a favor and avoid.

The hand drawn art is quite pretty and some parts of the levels look good too. The meat of the game are the giants. There are 6 boss battles. I liked 2, hated 1 and forgot the rest. Getting to the boss battles is mostly testing your patience. Maybe it's more appealing to new gamers who haven't played much, but for me, there's not enough meat on the bone.

A lot of work has obviously gone into this game, but I just couldn't get into it. Far too much walking about.
