IXION combines city building, survival elements and exploration, into a thrilling space opera as you explore the stars. Propelled onwards through a perilous journey, you are the Administrator of the Tiqqun space station, charged with finding a new home for humanity.
Keeping the station sound and flying will require a deft hand and strategic thinking, as you are constantly pulled between maintaining hull integrity, bringing in new resources and managing power consumption.
What choices will you make when confronted with impending disaster? What will you discover out there in the dark?
A population to manage, survivors to find, cryopods to recover... Maintain your crew's trust in the corporation that started this venture, or face failure and mutiny. Six sectors can be unlocked within the station, each able to house more population, support new jobs, and provide opportunity to monitor the crew with the Data Listening System. Will you bring hope to the people?
Who said DOLOS was the only faction to escape the fate of the Earth? Brush up against other pockets of survivors, navigate on from the failures and wrecks of others… IXION will lead the player through gripping chapters of story, where new threats and opportunities are presented, all in aid of reaching the final destination, a new home.
DOLOS are famed for their innovative technology, their scientists, but the Tiqqun now finds itself cut off. Find what resources you can, research what you do not have. Find new ways to provide for your settlement, construct new buildings to create what’s needed. Modify the Tiqqun station, improve it, forge ahead in this odyssey.
Space is a dangerous place. Hull breaches, overloaded power supplies, electrical fires... It is up to you to manage these risks, deal with emergencies, create backup power solutions, and enable Extra Vehicular Activity…
There are whole new stellar maps to explore. Send out probes to reveal what’s hidden, create mining and cargo ships to find resources, commission science expeditions to discover the secrets and threats you’ll find out there in space. Encounter other survivors and bring them into the fold of your mission, objective - survive.
Ixion dances the fine line between punishing and rewarding, between pushing you onward to unlock new content and giving you the option to finishing it at your own pace.
You absolutely can and will fail sometimes, but usually not in such an unavoidable way that loading the save 30 minutes prior doesn't let you overcome your previous failure.
It doesn't shine too much storywise, but then again, this isn't an RPG - it's on par with Frostpunk in that aspect.
Building up the station is great, and frequently going back and improving efficiency by changing sector layouts makes sure you can actually grow with your experience instead of having to learn through inefficiency and then having to start all over to actually see what can be done.
Nice "Frostpunk-like", awesome music but there are small details in game design that drove me crazy (for example environemental events do not appear after some in-game time but after you've triggered enough events of the storyline, therefore you're forced to limit those or else the game can become insanely difficult if your station is too optimized) and there is not really any NG+ or endless mode.
But in the end, I still had a lot of fun, and is quite unique in his universe and athmosphere.
The game is challenging, unforgiving, cool space opera story and on GOG, what could we need more ?
Its not for every one, almost every chapter is a stress test to see how good (or bad) you're managing the station, so it might be frustrating if you're not used to this kind of game. (Frostpunk like... I guess ?)
For my part, truly worth it, good experience, thanks Bullwark.
And damn the Black Market Society is really fckup, I mean, yeah, all corporations are, in a way, but you know what I mean.
It feels like a quality product, I recommend this game to anyone who likes a good atmosphere and is somewhat into space.
The sound design is fantastic!
The trailer got me hooked so i took a chance on the game even though it's s genre i have never played.
The sound is really great.
The plot and the immersion keep me going and make the mechanics feel imactful. i'm like 10 hours into the game at normal difficulty and I really want to keep playing to reach the end of the game because it's just a really well made game. The atmosphere and challenge combine to a really fun and quality experience.
Didn't think i'd enjoy this much playing this genre..
The only negative thing I can say about this game is the reading you need for the tutorial mechanics, it was not fun for the first 10 minutes reading up more and more about each new thing, but i stuck though it and after 10 minutes the game became interesting enough to push through the remaining "tutorials" that's my only complaint as a player new to the genre.
