The remnants of human civilization are threatened by gigantic creatures breeding beneath the earth. You must control powerful mechs from the future to hold off this alien threat. Each attempt to save the world presents a new randomly generated challenge in this turn-based strategy game from the makers of FTL.
  • Defend the Cities: Civilian buildings power your mechs. Defend them from the Vek and watch your fire!
  • Perfect Your Strategy: All enemy attacks are telegraphed in minimalistic, turn-based combat. Analyze your opponent's attack and come up with the perfect counter every turn.
  • Build the Ultimate Mech: Find powerful new weapons and unique pilots as you battle the Vek infestation across Corporate-Nation islands.
  • Another Chance: Failure is not an option. When you are defeated, send help back through time to save another timeline!

Turn-based Strategy the feels like Chess

Outstanding title. Easy to play, but hard to master! I hope they make a tabletop version of this game!

Ironman for better of for worse

As for FTL, a very fun game to play... if you have plenty of time dying and retrying. Forced Ironman mode makes some people happy, but makes a lot more people restart a whole game when they do a single mistake, forget something, or just encounter a new type of issue/monster/ability. If you have time, add two stars to my note :)

great game but...

from a longtime-ftl fan: into the breach is quite as addictive as its predecessor. although it seems a bit more complex (and thus not that easy in the beginning for newcomers) when compared to faster than light. one more thing i miss: a strong soundtrack. into the breach is a very noble game when it comes to game mechanics - but i'm still not sure if it's a five star and worthy successor to ftl.

Tutorial issues

I don't wish for this review to affect the overall score as I may be being an idiot so I have given 5 stars. During the tutorial I accidentally clicked on and removed a tip without reading it. I left the battle so that I could restart the tutorial, yet when I started a new game there was no option to go through the tutorial again nor in the options. Because of this I have lost a subsequent game because I wanted to move a unit in a certain way but didn't know how costing the game. I also feel like I've missed out on the introduction (if there is one) to the world and the 2 other pilots, this may not be an issues for others but I like to do things in a particular order. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling the game removing save files but the game remembered my profile, statistics and that I had previously accessed the tutorial. This is my first review so if I should post this elsewhere please let me know.

Better than FTL (in my opinion)

There, I said it. Especially since so many people compare it to FTL and it certainly has its similarities, I feel like I should write about why I feel that this game is much more enjoyable. It can be summed up in: The player is in control. (Basically) no RNG stuff that can make or break a run. Yes - the levels, missions, selection of enemies and whatnot is randomized every time but you get information about the level you are about to play and once you've chosen one, you're in control of EVERY little thing. Aside from the NPC actions of course. So when things go wrong, you know it wasn't chance but your dumb decision(s). Maybe not that particular turn but 3 turns before and you will maybe think "Damn, I shouldn't have spread out my units so much". And you learn... Sure, there were also learning processes in FTL but still... the randomized aspect was pretty large and so after playing through it a few times, I didn't even really want to finish it with different ships. But with Into The Breach, I keep finding it really exciting to try out different squads, figuring out how to best play with them and figuring out whether there is one particular squad that dominates more than others. I actually WANT to finish the game with all squads on Hard (eventually). I've played this for 26 hours by now - so I've already easily gotten my money's worth, yet it feels like I've basically only just started (finished with only 3 out of 10 squads).
