Description
An FPS horror game set in a surreal, dark and deadly biomechanical world never seen before.

One does not get to set the rules in the world of Inner Chains. Humankind is just a small part of a hostile universe. Want to survive? Discover its secrets.

A planet in the distant future. A rock floating in space that is no longer what it had once been. Without human interference, nature has been adapting to the new conditions, reclaiming what was once taken away. In its pursuit of perfection, it began to assimilate with the abandoned technology giving life to biomechanical beings.

Left to its own devices, man-made technology has also changed as it tried to adjust to the new environment. A strong symbiosis soon developed between technology and nature. It became difficult to determine what is alive and what is mechanical in the world of Inner Chains.

After several million years of biomechanical evolution, mankind once again became an important part of the ecosystem. However, it hasn’t regained an advanced stage of development. As a result, the human race, oblivious to its own history, cannot fully comprehend or control the powerful technology at its disposal. The people living in the world of Inner Chains take this situation for granted and focus on using the planet’s resources to their advantage. There is also something that has not changed through the millennia: humans are still subject to basic social issues such as faith, dominance, oppression and manipulation. This led to the emergence of multiple castes, and, in consequence, to the supremacy of one particular group. They had discovered these mechanisms first, learned how to use them well that helped them rise to power. Others had to submit.

As one of the inhabitants of this world, your head is filled with the teachings of the Ruling Caste. Your only goal is to get to a mythical place called the Last Hope and leave this degenerated, dying planet once and for all. You embark on your journey full of fanatical zeal, but soon it becomes clear that nothing is what it seems in this strange world. You have to fight for survival, face hostile fauna and flora, and overcome your own weaknesses. You need to stay observant to your surroundings and explore the secrets of the game’s world. Your survival depends entirely on your watchfulness, logical judgment, quick reflexes, accuracy and the ability to use the environment to your advantage.
  • Dark biomechanical world with deadly fauna and flora
  • Stunning visuals set in dystopian surrealist style
  • Variety of challenging opponents
  • Breathtaking locations with unique settings
  • Atmospheric, tenebrous soundtrack
  • Thrilling action combined with intense elements of terror

Alright game with too many bugs.

Firstly, I have to say that Inner Chains is a decent game. It looks fantastic, but the gameplay is just OK. I wouldn't have a problem with this, but there is one reason that I can't recommend this game (at least for the GOG version).... The amount of bugs in this release is awful. Areas not loading in and slower performance in areas even on higher end PCs. If the developers actually update the game to run smoother, I'd happily update my review. But as it stands, I'd have to say that you should avoid this game, or at least the GOG version for the moment.

underrated GEM!

Following infos are essential: - small developer team -> but they did an amazing job! - walking-simulator like game -> which is great if you like this kind of game - just three weapons -> absolutely enough, because every weapon is unique - something around 5 or 6 enemie types -> always different compositions and groups of enemies - just 4 chapters -> which are very different and look amazing, well buildt - always the same fighting-theme -> but it´s a good theme, standard in other games, too The game is amazing. Yes this is no joke. I don´t know what other people were expecting but I thought this game would be crap but wanted to play it. I paid 3.99€ and I would have paid more, if I would have know about the quality. It reminds me at scorn but you can play it NOW! This is like a walking-simulator horror game and yes it makes fun. It has weapons and every weapon is uniqe. You reload them at living, organic weapon stages and yes they also refill your life gauge which is an awesome idea and gives you space for tactics. The gameplay is very slow, you have to watch every step, you have to play S L O W L Y ... this is not a 0815 shooter, this is not COD. You have to walk around, inhale the atmosphere, watch everything around. You have to think about how to kill enemies... you can use your surroundings to kill them for example aggressive plants which will hit them or eat them infront of you. you can combine weapons (shoot mushroom, burn mushroom gas -> kill enemies) There is a very cryptic story which is told by wall-paintings but it´s more like rules of a cult. you must connect it to the world to find out what happened. At the end there is a small sequence I liked it and I would LOVE to play an inner chains 2, but unfortunately there will never be a 2nd game. Can just recommend this game and had no crash

Nice visual design but otherwise shoddy

Played this game from start to finish which takes a couple of hours. You play as some sort of religious monk who manages to upset your cult and therefor starts to fight to kill everyone else... kind of. It's an FPS and you have three different weapons at your arsenal (your bare fists not included): some sort of shock rifle that fries enemies, a flame thrower and a nail gun. The first two looks kinda cool while the third one is the gun that actually inflicts some damage at the bullet sponges that rushes you. Enemies are dumb as rocks and uses no tactics whatsoever besides standing still and shooting or rushing your position. There are weird plant-like enemies that you can use to lure enemies into traps - which can be mildly entertaining. The game is rather dull but the environments are cool and kinda reminds me about the Painkiller-games. Sadly, the game is a technical trainwrecks and getting a decent framerate is not gonna happen. The developers promised to keep updating the game which they haven't, neither on Steam or GOG. Is it worth playing through? If you want a short, brainless activity to engage with while listening to podcasts? Sure. If you have limited time (and funds): stay away.

Extraordinary experience!

This game is totally underrated and it was basically destroyed by bad reviews from people who apparently does not understand it. If you like games like Agony, Clive Barker's Jericho, Scorn, then this is a must-play!

Unique dystopia, balanced gameplay

This game is maybe a testament to what happens when a laser-tight focused design intent and genuine inspiration get buried under rushed release schedule. This game is an unsurpassable visual treat. Never before have I explored such a nightmarish dystopic world, where the occult blends in with technology, creating an environment that at most times has me explore it with an open mouth. Language and vocabulary do not help - some of the places produce imagery that can only be conceived while sweating in REM sleep, tormented by the deepest of stresses and fears and which express themselves as visions of eternal doom. If Ridley Scott were a game maker and wanted to blend the visual style of Alien with some Cthulhu, some Quake I and some steampunk overtones, then this is what he would have produced. The attention to detail is staggering, and the obvious effort to never let the player get bored with the same style over and over really pays off - the sense of exploration and deep impression never ceases. The game would justify its time and price tag with its visuals alone but -surprisingly for a small studio production- the gameplay is balanced as well. There is only one difficulty setting but it is so well thought-out and balanced that the challenge forces the player to be careful and thoughtful, but without frustrating or forcing numerous attempts to pass the more difficult points. Just a sweet mid-level challenge that keeps the player engaged. Returning to where I began, it's a very unfortunate fact that when the game was released it was so bug-ridden. The 2.5 score it currently has is by NO MEANS indicative of its quality. The game is now bug-free and my objective score would be 4.5 stars - I gave it 5 so as to slightly compensate for its now VERY unfair score. If you want to explore a place very close to hell, then this game won't disappoint, you'll have a wonderful time forgetting the mundane paradise you are now living in.
