Description
An FPS horror game set in a surreal, dark and deadly biomechanical world never seen before.

One does not get to set the rules in the world of Inner Chains. Humankind is just a small part of a hostile universe. Want to survive? Discover its secrets.

A planet in the distant future. A rock floating in space that is no longer what it had once been. Without human interference, nature has been adapting to the new conditions, reclaiming what was once taken away. In its pursuit of perfection, it began to assimilate with the abandoned technology giving life to biomechanical beings.

Left to its own devices, man-made technology has also changed as it tried to adjust to the new environment. A strong symbiosis soon developed between technology and nature. It became difficult to determine what is alive and what is mechanical in the world of Inner Chains.

After several million years of biomechanical evolution, mankind once again became an important part of the ecosystem. However, it hasn’t regained an advanced stage of development. As a result, the human race, oblivious to its own history, cannot fully comprehend or control the powerful technology at its disposal. The people living in the world of Inner Chains take this situation for granted and focus on using the planet’s resources to their advantage. There is also something that has not changed through the millennia: humans are still subject to basic social issues such as faith, dominance, oppression and manipulation. This led to the emergence of multiple castes, and, in consequence, to the supremacy of one particular group. They had discovered these mechanisms first, learned how to use them well that helped them rise to power. Others had to submit.

As one of the inhabitants of this world, your head is filled with the teachings of the Ruling Caste. Your only goal is to get to a mythical place called the Last Hope and leave this degenerated, dying planet once and for all. You embark on your journey full of fanatical zeal, but soon it becomes clear that nothing is what it seems in this strange world. You have to fight for survival, face hostile fauna and flora, and overcome your own weaknesses. You need to stay observant to your surroundings and explore the secrets of the game’s world. Your survival depends entirely on your watchfulness, logical judgment, quick reflexes, accuracy and the ability to use the environment to your advantage.
  • Dark biomechanical world with deadly fauna and flora
  • Stunning visuals set in dystopian surrealist style
  • Variety of challenging opponents
  • Breathtaking locations with unique settings
  • Atmospheric, tenebrous soundtrack
  • Thrilling action combined with intense elements of terror

Walking simulator with some FPS features

I actually enjoy this game, I was attracted by the world aesthetics and I wanted to see more. Combat it's very slow-paced, I didn't felt like I was playing an FPS. If this game were more focused on exploration or puzzles could it be better. I only recommend this game if you like to admire this kind of ambients and slow-paced combats. PROS: - The ambient is perfect, especially if you enjoy gothic/alien/hell aesthetics - Weapons are fun to use CONS: - Not too much variety of enemies - In 1 area I experienced problems with textures not loading properly - Feels unpolished ( sound effects, character death, repetitive ambient music, etc)

Good graphic, bad story

It looks great at fist. "Hmm... nice looking Beksinski`s hell" - i thought. Yes, it is hell and it full of dissapoinments. In the end I come to concluthion - it is not a game at all , it is a Demo of good artists work. Sorry dev`s, but you spoiled very nice graphics potential. Hire good storymaker and game designer and programmers and musician and repeat, please. I will wait.

Only good thing is visuals

The game is supposed to only be a couple hours long, so I thought, given the intro, that if this was going to just be some macabre walking simulator with some shooting elements later on, I could get some fun out of it. Then I hit chapter 2 and my god does the gameplay ruin it. You move like a geriatric guy struggling to breath after taking ten steps. Combat is just firing a short burst to stun and meleeing to conserve ammo, but they use the typical melee you see in shooters that's only really good for knocking enemies back, and it's not even good at that in this game. There's hazards everywhere, not fun hazards, but "walk too close and you die" hazards. Oh, and the story is so bare bones, the bones look skinny. I wouldn't fault minimal to non existent story telling in a game by principle, but for a game with such bare bones gameplay that's going for that pretentious"evil is in all of us" kind of plot that, when teamed with how little story there is and no characterization, comes off as trying to look deep and putting zero effort in it. I think I got this for like 3$, and even then it's not worth it. I couldn't imagine paying full price for this. Get literally any other grimdark action/survival shooter instead.

A nice horror stealth action game

I found this game really interesting and a had a fun time playing it. The atmosphere is strong and the levels are very nicely designed. Also are the monsters. Really cool design. The gameplay is a mixture between stealth and FPS. Also there are some almost easy riddles to solve. The weapon and healing system is a bit strange but easy to understand. There are only autosaves but the save points are fairly placed. The levels are huge and loading times between levels quite long. The music and sound are o.k. A bit flat. To finish the game took me about 8 hours. At launch the game was pretty bugged. But after the patch it is almost bug free. It has very few frustrating moments, esecially the end boss is a bit annoying but defeatable. I can reccomend it although I bought it on sale for 8,99 €. I think it's worth the actual price (19,99).

Beautiful Game. Shallow Content

Inner Chains is the brainchild of Tomasz Strzalkowski, who was involved in developing the Painkiller series. This game is his first attempt in moving from being a level designer to a game designer and the result shows; it's not that great. The plot is really confusing and poorly written. You're some guy in this Lord of The Rings-esque universe and when you accidentally fall down from a cliff, you're labelled as a heretic and everyone wants you dead. It makes no bloody sense! The first level feels like a tech demo more than an actual level. I initially wanted to stop playing until I reached level 2. That's when the game picks up. Like Painkiller, you get these super cool weapons like an electric gun, a flamethrower (my favourite) and a needle gun. But unlike Painkiller, you don't kill enemies every 5 seconds. Instead, there's only a few of them and each can only be killed with a specific weapon. Despite the cool weaponry, Inner Chains has terrible combat system. Enemies are dumb and they take a lot of hits even when you shoot them in the head. The one aspect I enjoy is discovering stone tablets, which are scattered throughout the game. Each tablet reveals a letter in the alphabet and the more you find, the easier it is to read the encrypted messages that are plastered all over the walls. I thought it was kinda neat. The saddest part of Inner Chains is its length. I finished the game in 4 hours. It ended with a crappy boss fight and ending. What a ripoff! I understand this is a Kickstarter game but still, I expected more. It seems the developer Telepaths Tree has given up on this game as their website is no longer in service and their Twitter hasn't been updated since 2017. Such a shame because Inner Chains had great potential. It seems they sacrificed functionality for beautification, which they achieved successfully as the environments look terrific. I only recommend Inner Chains if you want something new and different. Otherwise, stay clear off it.
