Bittersweet horror game
Didn't know what to expect going in. I really enjoyed the mix of retro and modern style, between the pixel art graphics layered with HD VFX, to the high-quality sound design. It's a short game, very story-driven, but with puzzles and even combat segments. Everything seems to serve the narrative. It's not very challenging, so you won't have to worry much about repeated failures inhibiting the story's pacing. The short campaign makes it easy to digest in a long afternoon or over a weekend. It's a simple story told in a complex way. While I could see some people having issues connecting with it, I found it to be well-executed and effective. It's one of those stories that are filled with metaphors and vague allusions to what's going on, that has the player asking lots of questions, only having inklings as to the true nature of the story. By the end, specifically because of the final cutscene sequence, I feel like every major question I had was answered. I had a good time. Five stars. Looking forward to what these devs do next.
