Infested Planet

If you ever liked - the Starcraft missions where you had to wrestle against endless Zerg hordes with a handful of marines - sending mighty Space Marines of the Emperor against the Tyranid onslaught - to do YOUR part (and wanna learn more) ...then this game is DEFINITELY for you. Don't let the seemingly minimal graphics fool you. This is a fast paced tower defence/shoot'em up/RTS mixture, with very clever resource management. You've seen the elements in other games, but never before in such a masterful combination of tactics and action. The only problem, as others wrote, is the (lack of) internal balance. Some choices are way superior to the others (chaingun, grenade, medipack), while some others are inferior at best (scout, sniper). Still one helluva game, which well worth the buy.

This game combines the best of multiple genres into one amazing title: It plays in real time, but also slow enough and with a pause option during which you can assign orders, and as such, satisfies the turn-based gamer as well. It features elements of tactics, where you command your troops against alien forces, but also elements of strategy, when you upgrade, research and build (during missions). There is a campaign, and scirmish battles are available as well. The graphics are simple but charming, and the controls and the camera are very intuitive. And finally, the whole package (with both DLCs) is so full of content, diversity and replayability, that the game can be enjoyed forever! Simply a classic and a timeless jewel...

Infested Planet turned out to a surprisingly good and addictive game, with a great replay value. Some people say it's boring and repetitive, or there's only a few useful upgrades. But this can only be true if you limit yourself to the campaign. Otherwise, if you continue playing random missions, and especially Terminus, you'll find out there are many more viable upgrade combinations and strategies.

Great game. The pacing is good. There are pseudo-random levels to choose from, even as part of the main campaign. You get money to unlock new techs at the "map" area (Which, if you want them all, you have to repeat some levels for money. But, again, the pacing even of this is good.), but you still have to use in-mission resources to use it. The "double dip" sounds bad, but it works really well. Stages are rather fun, some frantic bug slaughters, some slow captures, and a few hair-pulling defend-against-a-raid ones too. UI is decent, with acceptable (remappable) keybindings. Graphics and sound works. This is easy to play in short segments -- a good "lunch break" game. I find myself surprised how much I enjoy it.

From the keyboard shortcuts to the graphics, everything about this game just hits a sweet spot. It is a little tiny masterpiece.
