Rating As An Enjoyed Personal Experience
I first played this game 25 years ago, I had personal reasons to go back. If I recommended this to my neice and nephew, I doubt they'd get into it, unless they could appreciate retro 3D gaming. Game were often frustrating for the wrong reasons back then, and going back to them they still are. As a game, its pretty hard to rate. It was tops 25 years ago. Now, it's some what arcadic in terms of controls. The graphics are 1999 3D graphics. I'm familar with what games were then, and what this was at the time. Hal Barwood, Doug Lee, the appearance of Sophia (Although not voiced by the same actress) was a huge draw for me. FOA was a masterpiece, this is the sequel I never played through. Being in my 30s I understand the rocky transition to 3D that occurred during this time. However, for it's time it was stunning, the game dates itself, clunky, glitchy.Auto-aim sucks I encountered game breaking glitches twice. Once when I killed the giant snake, the cieling above never opened, another time when I picked up the jewel in Nub's Tomb. ( I went through the floor, couldn't get back up the elevator) The game isn't above glitches that can ruin your day, so save often and have multiple saves The game is challenging, that makes it feel worth pursuit. Although I took periodic breaks from it. The levels are long, complex, maze like, they take patience, exploration, but somehow they are actually pretty addicting. Some times there's ambiguity, not because you're stupid, but because the game tricks you . For instance there's one section of the minecart level I remember, where 99.99 percent of the time doors only open when moving forwards not reverse. There's one hidden room where you have to back into it for it to open. Great variety in levels, the design for the time was great. I prefer the aesthetic, designs over the Tomb Raider games of the time. If you like vintage games, exploration, challenges, backtracking, puzzles, I say play it. But It is old, it is what it is.
