Description
As Indiana Jones, you’ll travel to 1935 China to prevent a powerful artifact from falling into evil hands. This globe-spanning adventure pits you against evil Nazis and the Asian underworld. It’ll take more than just a trusty whip and pistol to avoid the perils of the Emperor’s Tomb.

Indy's latest adventure plays out in dramatic fashion thanks to new gameplay features such as brawling combat. This time, in addition to using his trademark whip and pistol, Indy can engage in fierce hand-to-hand combat against foes, many of whom are well-versed in martial arts. Improvised weapons such as shovels, chairs and table legs also can be used to fend off adversaries. The result is a more immersive and more Indy-like gameplay experience, set amidst spine-tingling movie-like action sequences, such as a rickshaw chase in Hong Kong and a spectacular battle atop moving gondolas in the South China Sea area.
  • Explore levels across the globe from Ceylon and Istanbul to Hong Kong and beyond.
  • Shotguns, submachine guns, improvised weapons - and of course, Indy’s trusty whip and pistol.
  • Fierce fighting action and hand-to-hand combat.
  • Original storyline with new villains, wicked enemies and an alluring partner.
  • Leap, swim, climb and punch your way through exotic locales.

I'm glad I bought it

This is a fun game, and I believe it is worthwhile. That said, some of the gameplay mechanics aren't great. Mouse sensitivity needs to be turned all the way down, and it still lets the camera squirrel around a bit too much. Also the side to side running is a weird combination of strafe and turn that takes some getting used to. Most problematic though, is the whip controls don't always sense when you can swing, so sometimes you have to go back and forth on the edge of a ledge a few times before you get the right angle. One other important note (but not a problem) is that the camera does NOT control ascent and descent in water, as it seems. If you are on the surface of the water, space bar dives. If you are under the water space bar propels you forward. Steering is NOT done with the mouse, but with WSAD like in airplane games. Once your body is angled in the direction you want to go, you can hit space bar to propel. The level design is interesting, but not always intuitive. Indy generally doesn't jump down off of things, because it hurts him... but then certain maps require you to make a long jump that also goes down farther than you would think you should. But with experimentation, it's fine. The design is engaging enough to overlook that small flaw. The graphics are good enough, but I recommend playing on a small-ish screen, as the camera can be a little nauseating. The sound design and ambiance are excellent. Either they got Harrison to do the voice acting, or they got a top notch impersonator. On balance, I'd recommend this game, especially if you have any nostalgia for it. If you don't have specific nostalgia, this game may feel a little more middling, but still worth a play through.

I Want to Love This Game But....

Indiana Jones and the Emperor's Tomb was probably the second Indiana Jones game I played when I was a kid. After Playing Infernal Machine and loving the puzzles to solve I thought Emperor's Tomb would be the same concept. Not really, but still an entertaining game to play. hand to hand combat is fun and being able to pick up objects to throw at enemies. The platform jumping and puzzles to solve are sort of fun. The story was a little cheesy but at least there was one. My biggest problem with this game has to be camera controls ( use the mouse to move it and control Indiana underwater) and how there is no save button. Not being able to record your progress is probably my biggest issue with the game. Sometimes there are levels that are really long and you might die on a jump near the end of the level then have to start back at the beginning. I love Indiana Jones and have been a fan since I watched Raiders of the Lost Ark when I was 10 years old. I love playing Indiana Jones games like Fate of Alantis and Infernal Machine (love/hate game) but with the saving being a huge issue I have to give it 3/5.

What GOG is all about

THis game is a must-buy for Tomb Raider kind of game fans. It's a very funny game, really underrated in its time, that's worth its price. The game is mostly about four things: fist fights, platforming, shooting and puzzles. The fist fights are nice, the platforming is fun, specially the whip sections, the shooting is a bit simple, and some of the puzzles are actually cool (specially those that are related with ancient traps). There may be some problems with gamepads, but if you use Xpadder or the Logitech software profiler everyting should be nice. Anyway the game can be played with mouse and keyboard. This is what GOG is all about: recovering the fun from the past.

The last star is for the nostalgia

I last played this game when I was like eight years old, never finished it because I couldn't get past Von Beck's tank chase (and the time for a new game to load back then was infernally long). So I decided to give it a shot now and finally finish it. It's certainly uglier than I remember it, but I can't hold that against such an old game. The story is complete and utter nonsense I won't go into for fear of my brain starting to hurt. The voice acting is downright terrible, with dialog definitely worthy of it. Indy constantly repeats phrases which do not deserve to be called one-liners throughout the game itself and the cutscenes. That's right - you'll hear Indy say something stupid like "fortune and glory - here I come" upon finding an artifact, then repeating the exact same thing in a cutscene! There's also no option to save a game, and no in-level checkpoints either. If you die anywhere during a level you'll have to replay everything from the last time you saw a loading screen. This can get extremely frustrating, as a good part of the game consists of platforming and Indy needs more space than my car does to make a simple U-turn. This means you'll often die by falling into some bottomless chasm or another and have to play entire levels from the beginning. Most of them aren't too long, but long enough for replaying to annoy the shit out of you. The platforming feels somewhat clunky, and climbing around the environment is practically scripted. The game's saving grace is it's melee combat, which is overall simply fun (especially grabbing your enemies and throwing them off cliffs, balconies and into the water - who doesn't get a kick out of that!). There is a method to fighting your enemies, and failing to disarm them long enough for them to start shooting at you can cost you a good bit of health. Some of the locations you visit are pretty cool, although extremely over the top at times. There's a couple of lame ones too, though.

Not really my type of game

This game is not my thing. Moving forward and advancement within the game was far too tedious for this gamer. Having said that, I have to give a rating of at least 3 stars. It's obviously a beautiful, and very well thought out game. It has excellent graphics and sound. It worked perfectly on my Windows 7, 64 bit computer. I personally found that controlling Indy with my keyboard to be clumsy, and non-rewarding. Just not my thing.
