Indy's latest adventure plays out in dramatic fashion thanks to new gameplay features such as brawling combat. This time, in addition to using his trademark whip and pistol, Indy can engage in fierce hand-to-hand combat against foes, many of whom are well-versed in martial arts. Improvised weapons such as shovels, chairs and table legs also can be used to fend off adversaries. The result is a more immersive and more Indy-like gameplay experience, set amidst spine-tingling movie-like action sequences, such as a rickshaw chase in Hong Kong and a spectacular battle atop moving gondolas in the South China Sea area.
Explore levels across the globe from Ceylon and Istanbul to Hong Kong and beyond.
Shotguns, submachine guns, improvised weapons - and of course, Indy’s trusty whip and pistol.
Fierce fighting action and hand-to-hand combat.
Original storyline with new villains, wicked enemies and an alluring partner.
Leap, swim, climb and punch your way through exotic locales.

One of my favorite games of all time. Indy has never controlled so well or been more fun to play. The production values are top notch (if you'll excuse some sub-par graphics here an there), and the whole thing has the feel of an authentic Indiana Jones adventure. Fighting is robust and well implemented, the whip is amazingly cool and even the guns sound like they did in the movies. All in all, an awesome, totally worthwhile game for 6 bucks!
Playing it through again in 2015 the bad camera, clunky yet touchy controls, and some lazy mechanics ended up outweighing my fond memories a lot of the time. Headaches abounded. Then the little bonuses I've learned to love from GOG aren't quite there. For example; modern resolutions and the "goodies" are lacking. If you played it when it came out its worth the price of admission to relive some of those memories despite my complaints. And it might lead to my personal favorite "The Infernal Machine" getting released one day!
The game itself is quite unforgiving in parts and the save system requiring you to complete the section of the level can lead to a lot of painful repetition. I was surprised how well I remembered the game and some of the boss mechanics but I don't know how obvious they would be to newcomers which would only add to the painful repetition. The problems I mentioned above cannot be overlooked either. I got a good 7+hrs out of it and relived some great memories though. So I'm happy, but the game just isn't all its cracked up to be. Still, it is Indy.
I grew up with this game on the PS2, and absolutely loved it. I didn't even know there was a PC version of it until last week. Of course I purchased it immediately, and have had a great time reacquainting myself with the game. This is the only Indy game that I've found that really makes you feel like you're actually playing as Indiana Jones. Great story, great gameplay. The only reason I'm not giving this game 5 stars here is for the rather clunky controls, which took me a good amount of messing around with to get an acceptable configuration. (For anyone interested, I've posted my current configuration here: http://www.gog.com/forum/indiana_jones_series/pc_controls_for_emperors_tomb
)
If anyone has a better solution for PC controls, please let me know, as I'd love to enjoy this game properly again.
Have you always dreamed of horribly fiddly game controls?
Do you like it, if due to the camera movement of a game the breakfast from yesterday comes up?
Have you ever imagined how nice it would be if your character moans and groans like an actor in a porn movie when he is running, jumping or climbing?
Then do not hesitate to buy this game. You'll get all of this.
It's a frustrating experience indeed.
Playing the Emperor's immediatly throws you back to the Tomb Raider era: Jumping puzzles, some shooting and brawling and the neverending corridors. It could be fun, as it enriches the old formula with the Indy flavor - whip, hat, great music and entertaining brawls - but unfortunately the horrible input system just kills it.
Fighting even the more simply enemies becomes quickly annoying, simply because you're often going to miss focus, instead flailing at thin air rather than your enemy. Tuning down the mouse speed helps somewhat, but still the controls are so counter-intuitive, that one never really gets used to it.
The checkpoint system adds to the frustration: Miss a ledge, end up in spikes and replay the whole section.
Together with the unsupported widescreen resolution (the game is capped at 1280x960) it quickly reminds the user why this type of game(play) isn't really found in modern titles anymore.
I gave the game a few tries and didn't find it overly entertaining. For a platformer its controls are too wonky and for a cinematic / story focused experience it has too much platforming.
Probably rather a title for people who wish to embark on a nostalgia trip.
