Independence War™ Deluxe

I bought this game because of the reviews it had received here and my love of sci-fi shooter games. The idea of a simulation, using inertia as part of the ships manouvres, sounded interesting. The story is good, the missions are interesting and often have some good ideas to keep you entertained. The potential to have fun with this game is certainly present. Unfortunately the sheer amount of bugs ruin everything. I am certain that the mission I am currently playing is actually impossible to complete. The AI fails at just about everything other than shooting, they simply cannot follow the script. AI ships refuse to dock stopping the missions continuity, AI enemies fly off at high speeds in random directions, AI ships shoot at you at scripted points when they shouldn't and when they kill you the game crashes, AI ships sometimes shoot each other for no apparent reason. The list goes on. I want to recommend this game but I simply can't. It needs some sort of overhaul to become functional. I give it 2 stars because when it works its great. I genuinely hope this game is fixed in the near future.

I really like this game, i love it. But i only play Defiance when i was a child, i have noted this version of the game (the gog version) its so much difficult than the original. Probably in the original game i can easily destroy the two tugs in first mission of Defiance, in this version the tugs are very strong and heavy armed. Other problem is the cinematics, i have WIndows 7 64 bits but i cant see the cinematics of each level.

I just bought this game on eBay for my Retro-System (P3 with Voodoo-Cards and Win98^^) and playing it with a Voodoo 2-Card is just AWESOME! Complex missions, "realistic" Space combat, good Story, not so bad graphics (a Voodoo gives a huge boost) make this game one of my Favorites. I rate this Game a Must-Have for Fans of Space-Combat-Games and recommend to get the Sequel I-War 2 as well. And 5,99$ are a very good price for such a great game. So, Get it!

Spaceship simulators don't come better than this game. Of course, this game was made back when every computer gamer had his or her own joystick (usually a Thrustmaster or a CH Flightstick), so you need one to play this game properly. Some of the missions may feel a little off, but overall the game is very rewarding.

I have tried several times to get this gem running on my Pc's over the last few years, with no real luck. Now at last GOG has made it possible for me to play one of my all time favorite games on my Win7 PC! The game is brilliant, and runs fantastic great work GOG, you've made me v.happy.
