Independence War Deluxe

I bought and loaded this game for 5.99. The interface is completely off. It stopped and locked up the first time I played it right after the intro. I had to use Task manager to get out of the game three times and it locked me into haveing to reboot twice. I thought this may be a good deal but after using 1.7GB of hard drive sapce and the money I lost buying. I have to say aty as far awAy fromthis game as you can get. Nothing But a Headache. I'm using and up dated version of Windows Vista and 3GB of Ram

Independence War

I wish I hadn’t purchased this game. The Newtonian flight model is fun and challenging but the advantages of the game stop there. The manual explains the controls but not how to play. In game, very little help is provided. For example, there is no tutorial on how to dock with an object, you’re simply told to do so.

Exceptional Capital Ship Space Combat

This is an exceptional flight sim. Unlike many space sims that came before it, in I-War, you're flying a larger capital ship, like a frigate, rather than a small, nimble fighter. This, along with the inclusion of a fully Newtonian-based flight model and four separate but completely necessary stations to switch between during missions makes this one of the more complex space sims you'll find. You definitely need a joystick with this one, and one with a hat-switch to boot. If you're ready to take it on, though, you'll be granted one of the most satisfying space sim experiences around, with an excellent story, wonderful missions, exceptional combat, and, in my opinion, the best opening cinematic in any game, bar none. Overall, if you have any interest in space combat, and own -- or are thinking of getting a joystick -- then NOT getting I-War would be a disservice. Heck, I own it on disk and I'm buying the GoG version. Enjoy!

The one and only

This is for me the ultimate space sim. I belive it is for the space sim genre what System Shock is in the FPS/ RPG genre. You fly a 188m long ship, which drifts a lot (because of its mass). Since the ship has turrents and can fire in any direction. This makes the game so interessting and entertaining - its not like any other space sim I have ever played. In general the game is rather complex and one really has to get used to the many controls. Once you get the hang of it is highly entertaining and there is a great story. The add on (Defiance) is maybe even better: it introduces checkpoints during missions, so you dont have to play the complete mission again. Also it introduces a zoom for the turrets and a weapons loadout. This game is highly recommandable.

Good game but a bit hard to play

Short and to point: Good game, but a bit hard to play if you're used to the second game, let alone Wing Commander or X-wing. The controls in those game are easier to master. If the controlls don't scare you add 1 star to the score.
