! The GOG release WILL NOT RUN OUT OF THE BOX with most modern Win10 systems what you need to do is 1) to give the .exe files admin rights and 2) have these specific compatibility DPI settings: I) EdgeOfChaos.exe - Check High DPI override and set it to "System." II) loader.exe: check Program DPI and set it to "I signed in to Windows." ! All this is needed because MicroShaft disabled the old GDI driver by default, that a whole slew of old games depended on. It is usually a failure to set a resolution when the default DPI fails. These specific settings make the loader not crash regardless of how the game is launched, .exe or GOG launch. A lot of DPI settings stop one from crashing but not the other. There is some strange magic in how GOG launches the game. NOT RECOMMENDED. Ultimately the game is not fun and also requires you to study it and to adjust to its crap factor. The floaty-yet-slow-to-steer flight controls make manual flight a dreadful experience and the zillion of different controls for similar things make things (Approach, Formate, Dock and Autopilot Off instead of simple Follow and auto-disengage with manual commands). It is not more as much as it is having separate modes of windshield wipers for different temperatures - most people won't care about that. This game is not for the common crowd and is made with a flight stick controller in mind. The keyboard controls feel stiff as a bar of pig iron and unlike the stick, you cannot calibrate the stiffness out of the controls. There seems to be a lot of very outdated design features. Most importantly the lack of message log (memorize-or-die) and saving the game at will. In a big-environment 3D game where you take a lot of time to set up things and boringly travel from a waypoint to another, unlimited saving is mandatory. This was clearly done on purposef for teh hardcore sim flyers. This game most likely is not for you unless you have a Sidewinder near your desk.

This game is incredible. It really should be experienced as it is one of the best space games out there, easy.
