Description
Immortal Redneck is an FPS set in Egypt with rogue-lite elements. The game mixes old-school first-person shooter action with a rogue-lite mechanics. Frantic gameplay, twitch controls and an arcade-style feel meet randomly generated dungeons, a complete skill tree, permanent death and 9 classes with different traits.

The game revolves around a redneck tourist who wakes up mummified in ancient Egypt after an accident. Why is he here? How did he survive the accident? And why the hell is he mummified?!

The answer lies within the three danger-filled pyramids of Giza, all protected by an army of monsters and huge bosses. Obviously, your mission is to get inside the pyramids, kill all the enemies and discover what's going on!

  • Old School FPS: frantic gameplay, twitch controls and an arcade-style
  • RogueLite mechanics: randomly generated dungeons, classes, skills, permanent death but with gameplay progression
  • Nine playable classes: all with different skill sets. Players can switch classes between each play through, selecting the one most suitable for their current run
  • Complete skill tree: evolve your character, buying equipment and weapons, upgrading and acquiring new skills
  • Over 50 different weapons: traditional firearms, magical, mythological, futuristic or just plain weird weapons including a Potato Launcher. You name it, this game has it
  • Over 100 scroll modifiers: Each scroll picked up in-game changes your current run, for good (convert your enemies in to chickens) or for bad (reduces your speed of movement) and everything in between!
  • Over 35 enemies: mummies, sarcophagus, flying skulls, humanoid snakes, big fat warriors... All willing to kill you!
  • Huge bosses: two in each pyramid with unique gameplay
  • Merchant: Buy equipment and supplies that will be maintained between different games, even when you die
  • Skill Rooms: hone your skills in rooms focused on platforming and avoiding a variety of traps
  • Twitch Quest: special mode for streamers, your community will vote on what happens next!

Awesome

This game is fluid, colorful and fun. Enemies are easy to see and the game does a great job of not being too cluttered. It's definitely one of the best shooters I've ever played by virtue of it's smoothness and overall just ease of use. Some may like it, some may not, but one issue no one will run into is being frustrated or confused by what this game is - it's an fps, and it just works. GOOD FUN!

Very solid experience

I love playing rogue-likes when I'm listening to a podcast or just enjoying a cold one - something to shoot, have fun and not really be too bothered when I die. This checks all the right boxes - quick and well paced

Free's the right price for this

Like I'm sure the overwhelming majority of people who own this on GoG, I got it for free during one of their sale giveaways. Free was the right price. It's fun for maybe an hour or two at the most, but by that point you've seen everything the game has to offer and you realize from that point on it's just an endless grind running basically the same levels over and over to scrounge together enough gold to get one of the upgrades, of which there are few with a huge amount of levels per each, with each marginal level upgrade making no discernible difference to your stats, and the price for all upgrades going up every time you buy one. It's just an endless grind, and the core gameplay, while fun a few times certainly isn't fun enough to do over and over hundreds or thousands of times.

Hidden gem

I wanted to play a fun single player shooter similar to the Shadow Warrior reboot. I normally don't like roguelike/roguelite games, nor do I find the setting of this game interesting. Decided to give it a try and was instantly hooked. The movement and shooting are really good and fast paced. Replayability is high due to always finding new weapons/skills. Beating the first pyramid will take a bit of time, but is definitely not impossible nor really hard. You'll have to understand the bosses and that means dying to them a couple of times. Luck can be a factor, but you will become less dependent on it the more you learn. Will good scrolls make it easier? Sure. TL;DR - Definitely worth buying for old school shooter fans that don't mind a new twist to the genre. A must if it's on sale for under €10,-

A bit more balancing would have helped

You play as a redneck in a weird version of Ancient Egypt, try to clear out pyramids filled with monsters, gather weapons, buffs and money and repeat. In between runs you get a chance to buy upgrades to make the next run easier. There are also "classes" in the game. Presets where you get special starting weapons, skills, etc. Outside of shooting there is also quite a bit of platforming involved. Main issues is that the items you get play quite a big a role as to how far you will go. Not sure if its part of the roguelike charm or some more balancing would have been in order.
