Description
Immortal Redneck is an FPS set in Egypt with rogue-lite elements. The game mixes old-school first-person shooter action with a rogue-lite mechanics. Frantic gameplay, twitch controls and an arcade-style feel meet randomly generated dungeons, a complete skill tree, permanent death and 9 classes with different traits.

The game revolves around a redneck tourist who wakes up mummified in ancient Egypt after an accident. Why is he here? How did he survive the accident? And why the hell is he mummified?!

The answer lies within the three danger-filled pyramids of Giza, all protected by an army of monsters and huge bosses. Obviously, your mission is to get inside the pyramids, kill all the enemies and discover what's going on!

  • Old School FPS: frantic gameplay, twitch controls and an arcade-style
  • RogueLite mechanics: randomly generated dungeons, classes, skills, permanent death but with gameplay progression
  • Nine playable classes: all with different skill sets. Players can switch classes between each play through, selecting the one most suitable for their current run
  • Complete skill tree: evolve your character, buying equipment and weapons, upgrading and acquiring new skills
  • Over 50 different weapons: traditional firearms, magical, mythological, futuristic or just plain weird weapons including a Potato Launcher. You name it, this game has it
  • Over 100 scroll modifiers: Each scroll picked up in-game changes your current run, for good (convert your enemies in to chickens) or for bad (reduces your speed of movement) and everything in between!
  • Over 35 enemies: mummies, sarcophagus, flying skulls, humanoid snakes, big fat warriors... All willing to kill you!
  • Huge bosses: two in each pyramid with unique gameplay
  • Merchant: Buy equipment and supplies that will be maintained between different games, even when you die
  • Skill Rooms: hone your skills in rooms focused on platforming and avoiding a variety of traps
  • Twitch Quest: special mode for streamers, your community will vote on what happens next!

Abysmal rogue-lite

First the good things: Performance of the Linux port is top notch, my system is 10 years old, but it ran perfectly on above medium settings. Now the bad things: Everything else. I was 10 hours in, have upgraded most things to about half and still barely managed to beat the first phase of the first pyramid's boss before running out of ammo and health. And this is only the first of three pyramids... It says that most scrolls have a positive effect, I have a very different experience. It's raining curses. I wanted to see at least more than 30% of the game before giving up, but I've had it. I really don't want to do those levels again for days before being able to see anything else. This game needs too much grind and is too much dependent on pure luck, I made way more progress in Rogue Legacy in that amount of time. Also: Unlike in most other rogue-likes, it's not that you enter a room, all the enemies pop up and you have to get out alive, but here the enemies pop up one by one in intervals, usually right behind you or besides you when you're with the back on the wall fighting off the already existing hordes. What a waste of time.

So far it causes more stress than fun

At first it was alright, it felt you were making progress, but 8 hours in and only got two times to end boss and gettin there again feels like a chore and a complete roll of the dice. The reason it gets a low score from me is cause I recently force closed this game in utter fustration. I wanted to a challange and some fun and just wound up with a purchase I regret giving it a chance.I liked Ziggurat but maybe this game is just not for me. Anyway take my review with a hude grain of salt or sand since this is really a review made out of anger after the alst session in this game.

A fun grindfest for Doom Light play.

I got Immortal Redneck on Steam, and I have played alot of it. TL;DR: You will die, you have to farm the first pyramid alot, the better you are as a player the less you have to farm, but you may still be unlucky. See it as a quick game to pick up and put down. - Don't play this game if you want to rush through the game or if you expect skill to carry the day everyday. + Do play the game if you like some simple action, the feeling of hoping this next upgrade won't ruin your run, and don't mind grinding. Something that you have to know to understand this game is that it plays a bit like Doom (first person shooter, enemies spawn in the room, secrets in hard to spot places) but without having to play the game as fast. As such I call it Doom-light and is perfect for me who never got into Doom. Another important thing is that it is a grindy game, there is an almost impossible achivement of only starting 20 runs or less until you've beaten the last boss. To me the game is fun to play because it does sometimes get very high intensive, and you are rewarded for not rushing into the next room but instead peer inside, see if you recognise it and plan accordingly, but the game is full of upgrades and downgrades, making some runs almost impossible to finish if you are not up the the task to do so, but as long asyou can get money with you out of the pyramid you can upgrade your stats or unlock new classes. My tips for new players is to quickly get the Lioness god as she has decent weapons, and while she is the weakest her activate ability turns any pickups that you look at into meatsticks, being a good boost if you ever falls low on health. One thing I don't like is how it seems the developers have completely abandoned the game, there still being bugs that turn up at times that completely crash the game, and they had planned to update and put new things into the game, something they clearly did not.

Pretty fun game

Usually I'm not into these types of games but this one looked pretty interesting so I looked up some videos and was sold since it looked so fun. It's harder than it looks but it's nice having a skill tree and a lot of different weapons/enemies. I'm still pretty early in right now. I see that this game supports Linux and I while I am currently playing the PC version, I like to think my purchase helps support the Linux side as well.

Did someone say, Serious Sam?

Well no but it is exactly that, a Serious Sam clone and quite a fun one of it. This is a game you can quickly play in your lunch break for a round and if you know serious sam, meaning you get into a room and shoot every enemy in the face for the door to be opened, than you know this game. The main difference is the protagonist and than you can climb up when you push yourself against ledges, it is so quick and smooth that it really makes the game better. Honestly I would give it 5 stars if it had more variations, some wider open level. But if you want nothing but a timewaster where you only need skill than I can recommand this. It is a go back timewaster for me for sure!.
