Description
On June 22, 1941, Hitler's German forces attacked Russia's 2,000 mile-long home front and advanced on Moscow. The Russians put up a fierce resistance which finally ground the Nazi war machine to a halt. Vital to the resistance was the Ilyushin Sturmovik, the IL-2. It was an anti-tank aircraft hailed by the Russians.
The Russians called it "the flying tank", the Germans called it "Black Death", and you will call it the most exciting and realistic combat flight experience you've ever had.

Why buy on GOG.COM?
DRM FREE. No activation or online connection required to play.
Don't play missions, just do quick one-off scraps.
Flew a ME-163 to over 30,000m. The earth was a blue ball at that height (no continents), and you could see space.
Then I dive bombed and crashed. No crater, completely unrealistic.
Despite that, good game.
This is apparently very realistic flight sim. As I don't know how to fly an airplane, I spend quite a long time just getting off the ground. Once that was done, then there was the task of staying airborne for more than 20 seconds before going into a spin and plummeting to my death. After finally figuring out all that (yay autopilot), combat is, true to life, even more difficult. I still don't know how to tell who's friend or foe, not that it matters, because I can't hit anything.
Also, the game is very slow paced. It's not for someone in a hurry. Again, it's a real sim, not a fluffy fighter game.
If you can't fly a plane or don't want to spend a weeks learning how, I wouldn't get this.
Decided to pick up the game as opposed to the Cliffs of Dover as the mod scene seems to have kept this game up very well. So I was pretty disappointed to find out that I had just spent a couple hours downloading a game in which the primary installer has been updated to a version that is not currently supported by the most popular mods. I believe this could be simply solved by gog providing more information about the versions of their software so I can make informed purchasing decisions. Lesson learned.
While I imagine that the mods will eventually support 4.11.1M, I ended up purchasing a DVD version elsewhere.
If you aren't interested in mods, it seems that the game works well and seems to be a very competent flight sim, and played nice with my X52-pro.
