Better Than BG
The enviromental storytelling in this is way better than BG1

Very fun game
Very interesting RPG with great dialogue and awesome combat. A lot of choice in how you build your characters.

Inconsistent. First two thirds are good
Mostly, I liked this game up until Dorn's Deep, which is about the last third of the game. It provided three large dungeons, Kresselack's Tomb, Dragoneye, and the Hand, which featured nicely drawn maps and some large fights at about the right level of difficulty on Core Rules. Temple of the Last God was extremely dull with only two enemy types but worth getting through to get to the next part. The music was forgettable, I could have turned it off and not noticed a difference, in contrast to the atmospheric music of Baldur's Gate. Ambient sounds like whistling wind were good. In contrast with the goodness up until then, the first map of Dorn's Deep was terribly done. It's so badly drawn I couldn't tell the impassable cliffs from the walkable paths. Following that, the museum in the glacier, filled with frozen specimens, was a neat setting. That was the last I enjoyed. The rest of the game is about hunting six henchmen through a sprawling dungeon that I didn't find well done. The crazy wizard was fairly entertaining but the rest completely forgettable. There's a lot of missed potential here. The villain has started a false religion but the game did nothing with that; this false religion doesn't affect the setting in any way. The setting is too static. Short of the main quest giver being murdured, nothing ever changes. About the expansions, Heart of Winter and Trials of the Luremaster: They were decent but I found them too short and easy. So three and a half stars. Some mods exist to add much needed content to this lifeless game, though at nowhere the level of the Baldur's Gate series modding scene. War of Bloom and Rot, by Lava Del'Vortel, was the high point of my experience with this game.

i played this back in the day and i really enjoyed this game and i in my opinion the enhanced version is just as good but if you would prefer the original over the enhanced version this does come with a code so you can claim the original version as well
