Explore a beautiful, vast and ruined world riddled with dangers and lost technologies. Echoes of a dark and violent past resonate throughout a savage land, steeped in treasure and blood. Hyper Light Drifter is an action adventure RPG in the vein of the best 16bit classics, with modernized mechanics and designs on a much grander scale.
Drifters of this world are the collectors of forgotten knowledge, lost technologies and broken histories. Our Drifter is haunted by an insatiable illness, traveling further into the lands of Buried Time, hoping to discover a way to quiet the vicious disease.
From each character to subtle background elements, everything is lovingly hand-animated.
Easy to pick up, difficult to master; enemies are vicious and numerous, hazards will easily crush your frail body, and friendly faces remain rare.
Upgrade weapons, learn new skills, discover equipment and traverse a dark, detailed world with branching paths and secrets abound.

Why buy on GOG.COM?
DRM FREE. No activation or online connection required to play.
this is the kind of game require precision control all the time,
especially the chain dash mechanism which punish you all the time,
get frustrated really soon if you are not good at this type of game.
This game has a widely known bug where the game slows to a crawl on the 60 fps. I bought it at the Humble Store DRM-Free. The windowed aspect ratio only works as a tiny box, with no options for 1920x1080, for example. The gameplay leaves much to be desired--with so much dodging, there is no dodge-strike, and the lag window between dodge and strike is very long. Sometimes the color of the ground is the same as the character, and you lose where you are during fights. The title is very ironic, since the 60 fps bug is so sluggish, and there's so much backtracking and wandering around trying to find yellow upgrade symbols, so I like to call it Placid Dark Native, the antonym of its claims. No more sliding rock dash puzzles for me, no way. No more pink neon. Glad I paid $6.80 for this I'm dodge rolling it into the bin.
Hyper Light Drifter is pretty. The art is great, and so is the audio.
Everything else about Hyper Light Drifter is awful. The timing of everything is so demanding you'll easily run out of health packs. You can't get more health from foes, so you're inveitably forced into situations where you have to die over and over until you can progress to the next health pack. You will get better, but then there's always something new for the jerk who designed this mess to try and smash your face into. It's exhausting.
The main character of Hyper Light Drifter is already more exhausted than you. Every time you die you're forced to watch him pull himself back together through the same miserable respawn animation over and over again. Why would I want to keep playing this supid atrocity when even the main character doesn't appear to have any motivation beyond "my suffering ends if I make it to the end!!!!"
It doesn't help that the controls feel terrible. There's so much nonsense in the environment to get caught on, to waste a shot accidentally shooting, to get stuck or thrown behind so you can't even see yourself. Pretty environments are no substitute for competent level design.
What a waste.
