HuniePop 2: Double Date

I don't really know what to say besides a couple of things. The new system for leveling up your character is strange and sort of confusing. And the last one, I definitely don't like some of the cast in a way that I'm neither interested in the route or any events with them... also, what happened to my cat-girl?

An ero-dating sim utilizing match-3 game mechanics. That's for a short description of what this game is. What I liked: - thematically, same HuniePop game, - new approach to match 3 part - double dates, stamina (forcing to switch between girls), baggage (system of disadvantages). All of this makes this game far more challenging. Can't say it's exactly positive, but like I wrote, I liked that it's something fresh, - this game is HILARIOUS. First game had nice short funny dialogs. Here you get a lot more of them and on a completely different level, except you might miss most of this (read below). What I didn't like: - graphic style inconsistency. You can see it on screens already. This dev, before this game, has created two Hunie games: HuniePop with "realistic" graphics and HunieCam Studio with very comic like graphics. Playing HuniePop 2 I was expecting it to be a continuation of HP 1 and not a mix of these two. Let's be clear, I don't like the graphic style of HCS, but more than that, I hate inconsistency present in HP2. You see HP style character most of the time and get used to them, then in parts of the game, you have to guess which HCS style avatar represents that character, which at first is not so obvious. - nice dating changed to speed sex-dating. I liked how I was able to get to know girls in HP with every date (4+ per girl) and being rewarded with their selfies every time. Here, you go on two double dates with every pair, having barely any chance to talk to them and ending with single post sex photo. Game has lost a lot of it's side-depth (since match 3 part is the main thing), - limited functionality of HunieBee. Now you're forced to skip a date to chat with Kyu, to see unlocked stuff. Last thing. Since GOG is the only platform that received censored version of this game (??), it's good to know (for those interested), that there's a patch bringing it to the same level that other platforms offer: https://www.huniepop.com/patch/HP2SteamyPatch.dat

About four hours in, I can safely say that HuniePop 2 delivers more match-3 goodness. If you've played the first game, you know what you're in for: the strategic matching of tiles to unlock pseudo-anime images of women having a good time (censored by default on GOG; uncensor available online). All packaged with puns and guided by a horny fairy. Some of my favourite girls from the first game are missing -- Aiko, Tiffany, Beli -- but others carry over. A new girl, Leilani, is adorable enough to stop me from taking a star away for that. There are also some other new girls, as well as a few carry-overs from HunieCam Studio. Be warned though: the dynamics have been made significantly more complicated by the addition of a second girl, the need to balance between them, and the baggage they carry. You can't change difficulty after starting a game, and some end-game content is apparently not available to those who use the easiest settings. If you had trouble with the first one, expect to have an even harder time with the sequel.

The feeling with this game is that everything is more rushed and superficial than the first part. Game mechanics are similar with some changes. Girls are sexy but they have no development at all, the first game had way more likable girls (I still play that game sometimes). It has some nice music though... In general, I'm a little dissapointed with this sequel.

HuniePop games are not for everyone. They have a lot of over the top sexual clichés and humor. You have to like that or it's a torture to watch. That beeing said: It is one of the very very few games that actually can combine a game and erotic amusement in one. It is by all means a good 3-Match game and the visual novel aspects are few but they are well built in. All girls a re voiced and the drawing style is very good and pleasing. Again you have to like the anime-like style, if not of course theres nothing to do about it. I would also like to adress the obvious topic about such a game. Erotic games are still being treated as if they were something especially evil or problematic. They are not. There is a line between entertainment and unacceptable stuff, but this line exists anywhere, also with violent games for example. HuniePop does not have to fear such evaluations: - It is so exaggerated and over the top that it is practically satirical. Which actuyally makes it clear that such behaviour is of course nothing for the real world. - The women are basically from every age, color, ethnic background, social standing, country on earth and whatever you can think of, i doubt i have seen a game to try harder not to discriminate anybody. - The women actually behave better than in 99% of other "unproblematic" games. They are not "fooled" by the player or have some illusions about the sexfriendship, they act self confident most of the times and appear equal to the player and not just some trophie, despite the setting. They are all quite likable in their own ways ! - You can also play as a girl, something often not mentioned, but i think relevant nonetheless. So if you want to try an erotic game, that takes itself not too seriously and is really very heartwarming and fun, try it. Its really a good game.
