HuniePop is a unique sim experience for PC, Mac and Linux. It's a gameplay first approach that's part dating sim, part puzzle game, with light RPG elements, a visual novel style of presentation, an abrasive western writing style and plenty of "plot".
8 gorgeous girls each with their own personalities, preferences and style. (Rumor has it there are several secret characters to unlock as well!)
Hundreds of collectables including gifts, outfits and photos that you can purchase, unlock or earn as special rewards.
An addicting match-3 style puzzle dating system with it's own unique twists including upgradeable traits/stats, the ability to move any number of positions and special date gifts that have a variety of interesting effects on the puzzle.
HuniePop is a pretty original and interesting mix of dating sim and match 3, a curious choice that may not sound so good on paper but actually works pretty well in game.
With it’s silly humor the game feels more like a parody than anything else but honestly that's what makes it so fun, unfortunately the game is a bit too repetitive and the replay value is pretty low. Nonetheless a fun time for a couple of hours but nothing crazy.
The core match-3 gameplay is fine, but there are too many issues with the game for me to recommend:
1. The game is censored unless you manually put an empty file called "huniepop_uncensored_patch.game" in the install directory. This feature is not officially documented anywhere as far as I am aware.
2. The game is a massive grind. You have to constantly do the same thing over and over for several real-life days to farm in-game money, stats items or good RNG for 100% completion.
3. Two of the girls are locked behind absurd requirements that you would never figure out by yourself outside of sheer luck, making the grind unnecessarily worse.
4. The story is non-existant and the dialog is obnoxious. Fortunately you can skip it, but still.
5. Sometimes when you perform a combo, some of the tokens don't disappear even when lined up properly. This rarely occurs, but it's annoying enough to be noticeable.
6. There is a difficulty selector, but as far as I can tell it doesn't do anything except for the times where your score constantly decreases, and you can just spam pause to negate that.
7. There is no in-game option to exit the game.
8. There is an endless mode, but it is completely meaningless as you can just abuse items to bypass the increasing score requirement. There is no high score tracking either to challenge yourself.
9. Many of the game mechanics are not explained at all. For example, I had no idea that the food and drink meters had an effect during a date until after beating the game.
10. The lady pictures aren't even good except for maybe one or two,
Solid game mechanics, pretty good art, some amount of depth and challenging your memory when having to remember the girls' preferences. Also decently arousing when you un-censor it by a inserting a simple text file into the hunie pop directory, if you're into hentai. Also, i like the upgrade system and the combos in the puzzle parts. Only thing i don't like about the upgrades is, that you hit a ceiling pretty quickly.
All in all, it's simple, cheap fun. I reccomend it to anyone into candy crush-esque puzzle gameplay and/or hentai.
Decided to buy while it was on sale, and I really enjoy playing it. I knew it was a Dating Sim and Bejeweled type games for mature players. I never thought I'd be laughing as much from this type of game. I only have a few hours of play time atm, and really enjoy. Wish I played closer attention to what each color and icon on the game board means, but other than that I love the game
Well, okay, this is an erotic game featuring anime nudity. But the "dating" puzzles are fun to solve, and even the "plot" of the game is fun to follow.
