Horizon Zero Dawn™ is a multi-award-winning action role-playing game – and this Complete Edition for PC includes the huge expansion The Frozen Wilds, featuring new lands, skills, weapons and Machines.
I have no words... I've been gaming 20 years and this was a unbelievably pleasant surprise. Everything important in the game, the mechanics, playability, interactive parts, design, and art - is top of the line. And the story... oh my goodness. It is so good, so sticky, so engaging. So new and refreshing. The protagonist is so well rounded that it's hard not to empathize with her.
You can fel this is a work of love by the devs, and it's a true work of art. I would gladly pay 100$ for this game, and it would be a bargain.
Please make more, Guerilla. I love you. Thank you for the many tens of hours of pure delight.
HZD is a game that offers really nice graphics and a superb soundtrack. Bought the soundtrack on vinyl even before I got the game.
The background of the world is only partially believeable. Future, but with ppl living in fear of technical stuff .. ok, and in a kind of tribal "cave men" society... but then they talk and act quite modern and use tech where it fits them.... it doesn´t feel 100% consistent.
But the screenplay.. the interaction between the heroine and the NPCs.. is downright absurd.
I don´t mind a female heroine. I don´t mind matriarchy as it is depicted there. But I do mind the all male warriors called "braves" talking to the heroine as if they are unable to even tie their shoes. Ridiculously weak guys and hard boiled women everywhere. It´s absurd and I don´t like that, for it makes no sense.
The other thing that keeps me from giving this game a 5 stars rating is the fact that you are constantly forced to gather materials and hunt weak machines to get resources.
That said - it´s a good game, but maybe too "modern" for my taste in terms of screenplay.
This game runs very well and is amazing on GOG, well supported and is very scalable to lower end rigs if required. lots of options to configure for graphics but overall a great release
The data collection thing mentioned by many users wasn't really a thing... and if you're that concerned just block it with your firewall. The game will work regardless (not that my AV noted any outgoing requests)!
Sony and GOG - Great Job
I wanted to play this game since it was console exclusive, now thanks to GOG I can play it on PC with DLC and DRM free. Obviously it's not a game for everyone, there are some bad reviews out there and it's OK - you can't please everybody, it's natural. Let's get to some "pros and cons".
Con: The whole game seems like compilation of well known mechanics from other games (climbing Tallnecks like climbing towers in FarCry, also hunting animals to craft ammo pouches JUST like in FarCry, following highlighted paths to solve some mysteries like in Witcher 3 et c.)
Pro: ...but it is done quite well and fits the game. Personally, I don't care if the mechanics were copied from other games, as long as they WORK. And for the most part, they work well here.
Con: Potentially, there's a lot of grind.
Pro: But some of it is optional, if you don't care for achievements or 100% completion. Most importantly, I've never really felt bored when gathering herbs, hunting animals or scavenging machine parts, something I can't say about grinding in FarCry or Borderlands, for example.
Con: Much like Deus Ex: Human Revolution, you are free to choose your battles and the way you conduct them, yet the game clearly rewards you more, when you try to be "sneaky". Personally, I HATE SNEAKING, mostly because majority of games can't get it right.
Pro: But also just like in DE: HR, this element is done reasonably well. After some time you get used to the fact, that "RED GRASS"="SNEAKING". "Horizon" is one of very few games, where sneaking doesn't frustrate me.
Con: The current "woke" political agenda is present even here...
Pro: But it's not a noisy preaching like in some other unnamed games, so it never really bothered me. It's not "in your face", and it doesn't ruin the overall game world atmosphere.
Con: Witnessing the full visual glory of the game may require quite powerful rig.
Pro: I've never had CTD even once, and the details are astonishing.
Overall - recommended, but decide yourself.
