Description
Homeworld: Emergence was originally released as "Homeworld: Cataclysm". "Cataclysm" is now a registered trademark of Blizzard Entertainment, Inc., and the game has been renamed to avoid confusion. Other than the subtitle change, the game is identical to the game released in 2000.

15 years ago, we were awakened from the cryo-trays. We had survived the journey to Hiigara, our lost homeworld. Then they told us that the planet we left behind had been destroyed. Our families... friends... everyone not on the mothership - killed. Destroyed by an enemy we never knew.

We realized there was nothing for us on Hiigara. No property, no rights, no future for the "Sleepers". So we returned to the stars, fully awake this time, to work and rebuild our lives.

It is ironic, then, that we are the ones to discover an alien capable of exterminating all life in the galaxy. And only we are in a position to destroy it.

Fifteen years after returning to their homeworld, a Hiigaran sect unwittingly releases an alien horror. Now it's up to you to commandeer the Kuun-Lan, a Hiigaran mining vessel, and transform it into a combat-ready mothership. Build and control a fleet of ships, research technologies, and harvest resources while you search for a way to eradicate the alien threat before it is too late.

Holy Mother of OMG!!

This was one of those games I think I will be able to talk about for decades. Excellent story telling progressive in interesting mission design that doesn't get repetitive, quality voice acting and music score, you name it this game had it. I remember a few years ago I wanted to play it but there were no modern ports for it to play on any of today's OS's so I dug up an old machine, put window 2000 on it and got this baby going. The old CD with a key were hard to find too. YES... you heard me, I got an entire retro computer rig up and running just to play THIS game! I'm so excited that this is now available. Watching the journey of the Kuun-Lan as it progresses and adapts from mission to mission is PC game storytelling at it's finest. I think I'd put this one up on my top 10 list of greatest games of all time. The original was fantastic as well and homeworld 2 was ok. Homeworld: Cataclysm or "Emergence" as it's now being called built brilliantly on where the Homeworld exodus left off. Cheer to the team that made this happen. 5 stars!

Remaster this masterpiece, plz

This is the one that needs a remaster, but unfortunately the developers mentioned somewhere, that they don't have the original sourcecode and it would take a lot of effort, for which they don't have the people, so it won't happen probably. This was one of my first space-strategy games and my personal entry into the world of sci-fy and space-sims back in the day, where there still were CDs with a nice cover. I remember seeing one of the superbattleships flying right into my face. It's a great game with a challenging campagne and a catching story. Adds some useful and userfriendly features to the original game and is worth every penny. I bet it still looks great, even if I probably will see it with a lot nostalgia.

It's about time

It's not a remastered game. It is the game patched and reworked just enough that it'll run on current machines. BUT it is worth every penny. I played this game after playing HW1 and loved it even more. It's got the mechanics of the first that work with some new stuff and some stuff that was never implemented into HW2. The story is a little smaller. Controls are on point. Mechanics are right in the space RTS wheelhouse. Yes the graphics are a little dated. Who cares? And it's been rebranded Emergence. So what? Would you rather pay an extra $30 so they can pay Blizzard for Cataclysm name? Nope. Didn't think so. If you are a Homeworld fan, this a must have. It you like a good story driven game set in space, it's also a good buy too.

Homeworld Cataclysm

Homeworld Cataclysm is the best from the trilogy and yes I said Cataclysm cause I played it back in the day the original release. Its not just a game it’s the best space strategy game ever released. Space exploration, feeling small in those large empty milky ways of solar system, not knowing what to expect and discover. Everything fits into the amazing story of Cataclysm. Now the Homeworld 1 has also good story but not as good as this one. You basically become a hero from little known trade-exploring ship vessel. Space strategy in this one is done to the masterpiece level. Tons of ships to discover and build, a lot of unknown factor may be scary for you in the beginning but when you learn the patterns you soon start to feel like you are the captain of this ship. Voice acting is also superb. The story is the strongest part too in this title. Mixing with scare factor in this situation was a right move. Cause unknown space should be felt from scared eyes. If you love strategy games and you never played space strategy game like this one you should grab it asap. From back then when the trilogy was released to this day no one could repeat the same quality as Homeworld games did and they are still the best.

Worth playing if you're a Homeworld fan

Cataclysm (I refuse to call it Emergence) sits in a curious spot. While not a proper sequel to Homeworld, its gameplay is much closer to the original than the actual Homeworld 2. Fuel for fighters had to go, the game balance isn't quite as mercilessly rock-paper-scissors anymore, but other than that, this is very much the original Homeworld in look and feel. The classic Homeworld mission structure is also still intact. More often than not, you'll find yourself confronted with entirely new mission objectives, and if you're not prepared or fast on your feet, you'll soon be in trouble. That said, Cataclysm isn't as exhausting as Homeworld 1 and 2. Unlike those games, Cataclysm has no difficulty scaling in the campaign, and rather employs a classic difficulty system (five of them in total). What this means is that you can build all the ships you want, and the enemy fleet won't simply triple in size to compensate. Since there is a StarCraft-like unit limit instead of Homeworld's ship class limit, having a more varied fleet is possible in Cataclysm. While the story isn't quite the epic tale Homeworld 1 and 2 were, it provides interesting bits of additional lore that enrich the other games in the series. Fans of the Bentusi in particular will be pleased with what the campaign has to offer. Getting the game to run was surprisingly easy. Forget about nGlide. Start the game, set renderer to OpenGL, resolution to maximum (1600x1200), and enjoy the game. I had slight artifacts in cutscenes, but no crashes or other issues. Overall, considering how often it is on sale for less than $1, Cataclysm is well worth playing for anyone who enjoyed Homeworld 1 or 2.
