Met my lofty expectations

This game is an excellent follow-up to Hollow Knight, which is one of the greatest games of all time. It's the same, but slightly more challenging. Silksong has a different toolset than our Knight from the first, which spices things up so it's not too similar. My only gripe is that in 2025, there should not be "run backs". From Software realized this in 2022 by adding Stake's of Marika; Sandfall Interactive realized this with Expedition 33 in which you can immediately retry a battle. Yet Team Cherry has not come to this conclusion. There's a certain fly in this game that is a mentally taxing fight and challenging fight made all the more taxing by the run back. I don't mind the challenge of this certain fly, but my goodness, that run back to it after a failed attempt just adds to the mental fatigue unneccesarily. My plea to Team Cherry for whatever masterpiece they cook up next: please, please, PLEASE eliminate run backs. Keep the bosses as challenging as you can, but PLEASE many of us don't have all that much free time and I beg of you to respect what time we have.

It's Alright

Cool art style. The controls could be better - using left stick to perform a dive is uncomfortable for me. There is also a lot of tedious backtracking.

A fantastic game!

The only thing it could use are some accessiblity sliders to make the game a little easier for those of us who don't want this much of a punishing game.

Tough game to rate

For context: It took me 38,5h to reach 92% completion. I'm only missing some minor collectibles and beastiary entries. The good: The game looks and sounds fantastic. Character designs are very charming and setting/story is intriguing from start to finish. The environments are varied and the map layout is one of the best I have ever seen in a metroidvania. Exploring in Act 2 feels especially rewarding. Gamepad controls are tight and responsive. The bad: Enemy designs are a mixed bag and my biggest gripe with the game. Starting with act 2, enemies can get rather annyoing with their movesets and act 3 bosses are almost all garbage. Late game boss attacks can often overlap with your evasive actions (You jump to avoid attack A only to get hit by attack B that didn't even appear until you started jumping). With the worst designed bosses in the game, getting a good attack pattern seems more important, than actually learning the movesets. The last boss for example has four different follow ups to a certain move and it's basically an unseeable 50/50 mixup with your only course of action to either jump or stay on the ground. That's 2 health gone and maybe the fight lost, if you chose wrong. There are many enjoyable fights to have, but the bad ones really bring the overall experience down. This complaint is not about difficulty. It's about movesets that are annoying to deal with. Silksong would otherwise be an easy 5/5 for me.

Great design, painful difficuly

The game itself is really great designed. Graphics, Sound, Enemy movements. But in all this they forgot to add fun. It is just a pain or a chore to "play" due to everything being designed to hold you back, to be in your way, to block you, to annoy you, to be frustrating and thats what the game boils down to in the end: Being frustrating. (I played to the true end and beat every boss there is.)
