Hollow Knight

I just finished the game for the first time with 62% completion, 13 hours played. I'll try to keep my review brief - if you like Metroidvania games then you'll likely enjoy Hollow Knight. Pros: - Great art style - Controls are very tight - never felt like I died due to controls - Charms are a great customization feature - Story is interesting and unique - Good bang for your buck - Music adds ambience but doesn't distract from the gameplay - Rock solid performance - not a single crash, no slowdowns, no bugs. I might just be lucky, but very well designed game Cons: - Upgrade system provides no direction - gotta wander around until you find stuff - Lots of backtracking but very little help in the way of remembering which areas to return to - Map system is terrible...Metroidvania games need good maps - Save system (benches in the world) needs more benches, especially closer to hard boss fights - Central city hub could've been fleshed out more. - A few boss fights had too much of a randomness factor. Even if you figured out the strategy you could lose due to randomness. - No incentive to see the other endings.

For me this is the best game ive played in 2017. The beautiful artstyle and overall design combined with the gameplay near perfection makes this one of the best metroidvania games in years!

I like Metroidvanias, so this may be a bit biased but this game is amazing. The amount of content is jaw-dropping (and it lasts even longer if your PC is like mine and runs this game like a slideshow)! The game just feels right. The movement and animations and colors and sounds and controls all feel finished and ready and the only bugs I found either talked to me or tried to kill me! Absolutely a great game and worth your time and money!

Hollow Knight is proof that the Metroidvania is still alive and well. Team Cherry did a great job making a game that has not only great 2D art but fun gameplay. This game controls are so tight and responsive that if you fall in a pit or get hit then it is your fault and not the game. The world of the game is very intriguing and has many mysteries that are still not solved. But my favorite part of the game is the great soundtrack. It is quite rare for a kickstarter game to not be terrible but I really enjoyed Hollow Knight.

This game made me curious as it was announced years ago. And now, after buying and playing it, I'm blown away by this remarkable little gem of a gem. This cute metroidvania can be really really hard at times but it's always rewarding. Unlike some of modern games, where you're taken by the hand and guided like the whole game is a tutorial, a free exploration is wanted and brings up lots of benefits. Jam packed with content, you'll probably need about 20 hours of playtime on your first run. If you want to uncover every mistery (without using speedruns or guides from the internet) this will take up to 30 hours and you'll have probably didn't explored everything.
