As others have said...

I used to love this game on PS1, it was unique & funny, done in a kid friendly way, AI was never the smartest ..but it was not bad, it worked & even won a few times. SADLY.. this version the AI do not move.. which has ruined the game for me, as this was such a cool game, what they have done is like getting C&C and only having nukes usable to your side & no enemy or Army Men 3D then having them all stand still & do no damage, basically... on PC this version sucks! :( i will be getting a refund as its non-playable due to missing content. P.S. if you wish to get this game, i would suggest playing the superior version which is the PS1 version as there the AI does work, this versions only usable if someone fixes the AI sadly.

Don't buy it, get the PS1 version

Before I say anything else, I spent hundreds of my childhood hours playing this Hogs of War on PS1 and the game itself is a straight 5/5 for me. I love it. It's Worms 3D but better, AND voiced by the incredible Rik Mayall. However my 1 star review is simply based on the playability, for which there is none. While it is a slight step up from the Steam version (which does not even boot), this version really kicks you in the teeth with horrendous menu lag and graphical glitches that can't be forgiven. There are huge strips of terrain that are invisible. I see other reviewers note the AI being broken. I didn't even make it as far as taking my first turn to see the broken AI, it is that bad. It pains me to give such a great game a review like this, but just don't buy it. You will not play it. Find a way to play the Playstation 1 version instead because Hogs of War deserves to be played. Just not on PC.

Sad

Doesn't work. You'll have to find something...elsewhere than GOG platform. They don't care, even after many bad reviews from consumers and requests to support. Don't know why they keep selling it as is, that's a weird concept of game preservation. Abandonware is doing a better job.

Does not work with Windows 8 or 8.1

Same as the others above me, I can confirm that if you have a Windows 8 or 8.1 operating system this game will load but not run properly. It seems a shame that as this game was "re-released" by Gog in September 2014 it didn't occur to Gog that it wouldn't work any version of Windows released since August 2012 (e.g. Windows 8 and later 8.1). That means that if you've bought a new PC since August 2012, and didn't specifically request that it came loaded win Win 7 (why would you?) then this game won't work. Bad planning on Gog's side.

Smoke Some Pork!

So glad this is on GOG as it's one of my all time favourite games. Many have likened it to 3D Worms, which is a fair comment, but it is SO much better! Because you actually do start to care for your little piggy soldiers as they battle their way around Saustralasia, and you want them to improve through a fairly basic, but decent, skills tree. So that you end up with an elite fighting force. Gameplay keeps you gripped for hours on end as you use all manner of weapons on your opponents that are dropped in and picked up. You just want to complete the battle level you're on, and you don't mind doing it time and time again, because the game still retains the fun whilst doing so. The WW1 theme of it just adds to the experience. As do the slightly politically incorrect names and voice-overs done by the late Rik Mayall. His comedic talents are the cherry on top of an already great gaming cake. You'll constantly chuckle at the off-hand comments your pig soldiers make during turns, most of which are provided by Mr Mayall. It's a great testament to a great man. It proves that, sometimes, game companies can actually make the right decision on the voice talents they hire. This game is an example of how good that can be if done right. So, if you like turn-based games and you want something that's truly fun to play, then I urge you to buy this game. And one bit of advice - KEEP YOUR PIGGIES AWAY FROM THE WATER BECAUSE THEY CAN'T SWIM! Although try your best to get enemy pigs in there by blasting them into it...Heheheheh!
