Awesome nostalgic game
I have been looking for this game for ages, Thanks to GOG for bringing this awesome gem back to life. and looking forward to more games like Kindom underfire war of heroes, and Saga Rage of the vikings.

Simple yet enjoyable ARPG
I must admit, I never heard of Hexplore until.. well.. now, but it attracted me for its cartoonish graphics and party RPG style gameplay. That been said: it's pretty ok. I've noticed a lot of extremely positive ratings on this page. And while I think that, in its time, the game was truly something amazing, playing it now, as a new comer (with just a fixation for old style games), it doesn't strike me as it should. Not that I'm saying '' the game is bad'', that would a gross lie: Hexplore combines a well rounded gameplay, which is not just based on ''click the enemies until it dies''( but, in a certain point of view, it is) but it is based on some degree of strategical thinking, positioning and using the right character for the job, with exploration ( something that the game truly tells you right in its title :) )and a little puzzle here and there. Besides that, story serves its purpose ( the game does have a little of a poetic license when talking about ''holy'' crusaders) and its soundtrack does the same thing, while the graphics steals the spotlight with their being super colorful and pleasant for the eyes. Overall, a really good and enjoyable game, although it didn't manage to truly get my attention ( perhaps it's more personal preference than anything else). And that's the point: the problem isn't that it aged badly or it's a mess, but for me its simplicity is not enough of a positive factor to give me reason to keep playing it. However, it's absolutely worth buying not only for nostalgia gamers but for retrò or not alike. It's main feature, simple but still bit deep gameplay stands still true against the test of time.... just not, you know, enough ( man this is the weirdest review I ever gave in this site)

Amazing for its time
I once got the demo of this game on a CDROM of 50 games/demos for Windows 95 back then and got hooked. I loved all the secrets hidden in the game and how cool the heroes were. Many years later I found the full version on CDROM on online for same and bought that. I could not play the game on Windows without artificially limiting CPU speed to below 1GHz. For 5€ this game is a steal on GOG. When I saw it, I immeditately went to buy it here again, hoping, that GOG had fixed any issues with too fast CPUs. I was not disappointed! The game works without issue on multiple cores (using WINE 5.0 on a Xubuntu). Only the videos sometimes do not play, but that is workaroundable, by saving at the end of a level and starting the game limited to one core only. Then the video will play just fine. Save at the beginning of the next level and you are good to go for normal multi processor mode again. So for me the game works almost perfectly and I enjoy making a different choice for the characters the 2nd time around. I already noticed, that some rooms with traps are much harder than I remembered, traps dealing tons of damage each hit. Not sure its always been like that, but I like it. The perfectionist in me also wants to find all secrets, which is a tall order in this game. Still remember running around for hours on the last playthrough, to get that one blue chest … I definitely recommend this game to anyone, who does not fear the pixel, it's epic! ; )

Really polished adventure/RPG
It is hard to tell you exactly what genre this game is. Is some kind of mix of adventure (like Lost Vikings) and RPG (like Rage of Mages) with some dungeon crawling elements (like Nox) with a bit of grind (like Darkstone) with a stylized detailed graphics (like WarCraft 3) with micro management features (like Commandos or Myth: The Fallen Lords) with a huge semi open world map (like Guild Wars 2) with charming music and voice acting (like Age of Empires 1 :D) that can be played any way you want. You can take it slow and focus on the story or you can grind the s*it out of the monsters with just 1 character or you can use all your characters to rampage on the clueless monsters. Overall is a very enjoyable game. The beginning of the game is a bit slow but later it turns into a bad ass game. Played this when i was a kid, i would play it again.

Best restored old game there
When it comes to old games you can encounter some issues - crashes, tiny microscopic font, unreadable pixels on high resolution etc. This game have no such issues, it plays flawless on my PC with modern OS. And font is readable, which is major pain when you come back to old titles. It funny adventure through the fantasy land where treasures and adventure awaits. A lot of looting, traps disarming and exploration with secrets here and here. You can find all party members on the first map, remember to check their Speed (the more HP they got the slower they are and vice versa).
