Heroes of Might and Magic® 5 Bundle includes Heroes of Might and Magic® 5 and its two expansions: Tribes of the East and Hammers of Fate.
Heroes of Might and Magic® 5 is a turn-based strategy game in which you can build cities and besiege them, train troops and slaughter them, and explore new lands – and crush them under your iron heel. You directly command your armies on the battlefield and aid them with your character’s abilities as well as your own strategy skills. With six unique factions to choose from, each with its own set of buildings and creatures, Heroes of Might and Magic® 5 provides gamers with the strategy and detailed graphics that the series has been known for. As you progress through the game your character gains levels of experience that allow him to learn new spells and abilities. All this is set in the magical and enchanting setting of the legendary Might and Magic® universe.
As a long time HOMM player this entry into the series was a decent one. The graphics are some of the best in the series but the game runs poorly. And by this I mean the load times sometimes are incredibly long for AI enemies. The corny cut scenes also could have been much better done than they were. But in the end lots of the core HOMM game is there with the combat being true to the first 3 games. That's what really matters and there are quite a few fun missions on the campaign.
Certainly well worth 10 bucks or less!
First of all, let me say that i've always preferred homm2 to 3. Ok, the third one plays better and is better balanced, but it lacked the spirit of the second game, the cartoony looks that were fun and overall i really enjoy the second game more even to this day.
So what does this have to do with 5, will you ask? Well to me, HoMM V is the spiritual successor to the 2nd game. It managed to get that spirit right AND use innovations from the other games in the series to make a truly unique game. The art is great, the graphics are still pretty good even now in 2012 and the game plays even better than HoMM 3 ever did.
The gameplay revolves around your starting race choice as they each play differently. For instance necropolis relies heavily on raising dead troops after the fights, orcs are using rage, dwarves can spend gold to get boosts from runes and are very magic resistant, etc.
The hero evolution/personnalization system is also insanely good and depending on your choices you'll end up playing totally differently. The 2 expansion packs are great and add races with unique concepts and gameplays (orcs / dwarves).
Overall, i think this is the best game in the series and it's only natural that it's Nival Interactive, the guys that made Etherlords, that made it.
Grab it as fast as you can if you ever played and liked any HoMM game.
